I originally had Cal putting together a killer TSM motor for me, but the death of my father and a need to put an engine in my daily driver Syclone have forced me to make a very difficult decision to sell the shortblock. This motor was designed from the beginning to be very competitive in the TSM class, but would also make an excellent street motor for someone who likes things built right.

The motor contains:

- Cryo treated Buick 109 block (stock block), 3.805 bore
- Cryo treated Eagle forged steel crank, stock stroke
- Cryo treated Oliver rods
- Cryo treated JE pistons
- JE file fit rings
- Cryo treated RJC Billet Steel engine girdle with crank scraper
- Clevite H main and rod bearings
- Clevite cam bearings
- Rollmaster timing chain
- Cryo treated Comp Cam Billet roller cam – 218/218 duration, ??? lift (will fill in once I get home and check the cam card)
- High volume timing cover
- Comp853 lifters
- High volume oil pump
- Shortblock is assembled fully assembled

All work done by Cal @ Hartline Performance

Here is a quick shot of the motor:

I have well over $9,000 in this shortblock, and would cost more to duplicate, as I got a killer deal on the cryo work. It would also take a significant amount of time to get this completed, and my shortblock is ready to slap a set of heads and intake on, and go racing. I am looking to get $7,500 + shipping. Will deliver for free anywhere between Key West and Orlando.

Cal knows the motor well, and will vouch for me, as I know I do not have a ton of posts. Please post, PM, or e-mail matt@host.net with any questions. If you would like pictures of something specific that you don't see, please let me know. :)

I can also vouch for Matt, he is a really good guy and anybody that buys this shortblock will NOT be disappointed!

I personally saw this motor come together. Every part -every procedure mentioned is in there. This is one awesome 109. :)

Is the appearance of the piston tops the result of it being cryoed or were they glassbeaded? One great motor! Done right! You have the rollers as being 853s but the box in the picture says 885s-which are they?

The pistons were glass beaded to remove the sharp edge of the dish prior to cry treating. I wanted to avoid any hot spots on the piston face. Cryo treating does not actually change the physical appearance of a part. :)

As for the lifters, that is a good point. The parts list came from Cal, but I see what you are referring to in the picture. I will ask him to clarify :)

I asked Cal about this, and he replied:

"The box is wrong. You have the good lifters as can be seen by the gold retainer inside them."

So it looks like they are 853s :)

although i am not interested in the motor i am curious about the cryogenic treatment of the block.i own 2 cnc machines and am very failiar with metals and i have yet to understand the crogenic procedures benefits on cast iron.do you have any information?sending it privately would be ok as well.

All PMs and e-mails have been returned at this time. If I missed anyone, please let me know! :)

Chris, as far as the benefit to cast iron, I'll see what I can dig up for you. :)

CK,

I just wanted to chime in on the cryo treating. I will give it my caveate that I have done no further research after talking with this gentleman.

I happened to meet a guy on the golf course that is a materials specialist for Lockhead Martin. He HAS a masters in materials science, so I figured his word is as gold as anything. Without getting into any details that I definitely can't explain, they (LM) have found through testing that cryo treating most iron based metals definitely improved strength of the material against fatigue and failure (breaking/cracking). However, this has no effect at all on aluminum. He said the only really thing you could do with aluminum is heat cure it.. about 4-8 hours in a 300 deg oven. Cryo treating aluminum can actually cause it to crack if they aren't properly welded (clean welds I guess). But they have found nothing for cryo helping aluminum. This all came up when I was asking him whether cryo treating my cracked and rewelded Champion heads would help.
