though about painted heat shield to save money from buying a nicer one, has anyone ever done this before if so, could you tell me how to go about doing it, any help appreciated

I painted mine. I rubbed it down with vinegar first. Then I used a high temp flat black primer for a couple of coats. Then I put on 2 coats of high temp gloss black. It's held up pretty well.

Clean it and hit it with BBQ grill paint. Semi-gloss black and will withstand temperatures of up to 1500 degrees F.

I did mine in wrinkle black finish. It's never faded , cracked or anything. Looks pretty good.

I painted mine a few years ago with a high temp silver/gray color so it looks somewhat factory. The paint has held up well without flaking or bubbling.

I painted mine aluminum color. I used VHT Hi-Temp Universal Aluminum and it looks awesome. I had some minor rust to sand off first but put about 3 coats of paint on and it turned out excellent....Also painted my factory valve cover the same color too.....Any oil that spills on them wipes up with no residue....

cool does anyone have any pics, since i have posted the first post i sanded half of mine down to the metal (it was very rusted and tarnished) and it looks really good, im thinking about just polishing it up, but then again i like that black look, it would go great with black valve covers.

Here are a couple of pics of mine. I also did the uppipe. I liked the black myself. Prep is the key. Plenty of primer and wetsanding and it will look great.
