Head gasket question

Is it acceptable to replace the headgaskets without blowing them? I am getting ready to replace my timing chain and vavle springs anyway. The car has 144k and has never been opened. It did have a overboost problem before I bought it as well. It has spiked over 20 on pump gas on me before as well, and that with out a IC shroud  . The car runs good, but I have an edelbrock 204/214 sitting here new in the box I can throw in as well. I don't want to pull it all apart only to have to buy gaskets again.

You know whats going to happen, if we say dont do it they will blow the first time you boost, if we say do it you will be loosing that ever so magical factory seal. Its your call.

Why fix it if it ain't broke....:D My boost hit 25 psi once on pump gas and it sputtered, choked, puked and blew my intercooler hose off....I never replaced the headgaskets and I had over 180,000 miles on it...
