I just bolted my D/Side head on today with a Fel-Pro 1000 gasket.
Bolt them in a 3 step process. 40 ft/lbs then 60 ft/lbs then 80 ft/lbs. This will help the gasket so it doesn't crush in one spot or another. They get bolted in a certain order too....LMK if you need the order.
Make sure to use gasket sealer on the threads of the bolts that go in to the water jackets (I used it on all of them).
You should also clean out the threads before doing anything with a bottoming tap.
The 1000 was recommended to me by several people on this board as opposed to the stocker I got in an engine rebuild kit.
