I ve got an 84 t type with an 87 block and kenne bell big valve heads, stock bore stock pistons, im going to use fel pro 1000, but now everyone is telling me to use the stock gm head gaskets, with studs, the car has no heater box so i can remove the heads at later date, who should i listen tooooo. i poped the gm gaskets with bolts last year with detonation . does some one have a combo thats proven, or am i lockwiring the heads???

i'd use the stock 84-85 steel shims for a little bump in compression installed with a coat of ge 1200 sealant.you can use studs if you like, but arp bolts work great too.

the most important thing is to not detonate, next time you might not get off so light:( .

later,sean

I'm in very bad need of the 1000s for my 4.1L. No place around here seems to be able to get them (they've been on order for over a year). Let me know if you still have them.

As everyone else said, unless you're running deep in the 10s, you'll be fine with the stockers. Hell, with the hotair steel shim gaskets I cracked a cylinder from detonation but the gaskets held. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Sometimes it's better to have a safety fuse. I can't tell you what a bad feeling it was when I pulled my heads for what I thought was a blown headgasket but the gaskets were fine.

The stockers will go very far (below 10's). What would you rather do, replace the headgasket, or a piston? Use 86/87 headgaskets. Detonation kills headgaskets, not boost. Don't try to go fast on pump gas. Run race fuel at high boost.
