Witch head gasket are the best to use? Build is in sig. Basically it a DD but want to turn up the boost to 25 and do some track some.

Thanks
Shaun

Personally I'd go for the RJC steel shim. They are as close to the stockers as possible & can withstand ALOT of abuse.

Others have had good luck with fiber gaskets.

I was looking at the RJC ones but wanted to see whos running what.

I've been running my stock HGs for 65k miles now and would recommend using the same for replacement unless you are POSITIVE your heads and deck are PERFECTLY flat.

And I run 20psi on the street and 25psi @ the track.

I hope they are because the motor is still at the machine shop. LOL
I have bigger problems if there not. LOL

Felpro 9441 PT good for a street/strip car. Put them on dry, no retorque, $80 for two.

I hate to retorque, don't like alot of prep work and something bothers me about MLS gaskets.

Coppers and o-rings for serious strip cars with really good tuners. On Iron head cars I've seen the piston will die first if you screw up. :frown:

If it's at the machine shop then o-ring the block with stocks HGs and you'll be good to go.

O rings went out with disco. They have to be done right and not allot people can do it. You will end up with antifreeze in the oil and a trashed motor.

Cometics are #1 choice second would be RJC and third Fel-Pro.

When I did heads on my TTA I went through the dilema of which head gaskets to use. Since it was my first time doing heads I went with the GM gasket. I forgot who makes it for GM. But they have held up to numerous 125+ MPH passes in a row so far at 3750lbs. I decided to go the simple route the first time. So far so good.

I run SCE Titans - have had no problems. I did not o-ring my block or heads because the gaskets have the o-ring in them.

True head surfaces + Cometics--and they can be reused up to 2x..There are those, however that warn against "driving over your crank" with them...

Head gaskets

Here is my 2 cents prep is what makes all the diffrence no matter what the gasket! I have tried them all and i really like the Comectics with studs! the block should be checked with a straight edge and perfectley straight same with heads next clean all bolts holes with thread chaser not a tap this crucial clean all holes with crc eletro-motive cleaner run studs in finger tight then 1/4 turn with a 1/4 ratchet make sure all studs are equall in height with a straight edge if all studs are sitting right coat the lower studs exhaust side with permatex liuqud thread sealant and intake studs with arp molly lube! next rough both block and heads with emery cloth the trick is you want the gasket to grip if the surface is to smooth it wont! Next using indian head liquid about 2 bucks a bottle 2 bottles will cover you hit both sides of gaket on work bench on a piece of card board Cometic says to but on dry I disagree I dont like silicone cause it has the nature of squezzing out and plugging water ports!! Guys restoring P51 mustang Engines use it so you know it works! Next slide heads on and use molly lube on studs and washers both sides dont be bashfull!! Next torque to 75 foot pounds in three steps! Next using a heat gun heat head up going back and fourth like you were painting a wall usually ten minutes then retorque to 75 foot pounds!!!! I am not a professional engine builder but I work on cars for a living ans was taught do it once do it right!! If any body has any thing to add or has comment please let me know my ego trip died many blown head gaskets ago:p

Are you using any sealant on the stud threads going into the block? Something is confusing here. If the studs have been tightened into the bock how is the sealer getting on them?

Studs are not all the same height either.

Yes I meant put sealant on studs going in to block on exhaust side. The exhaust studs are the same length and must be ran in even sorry for the confussion:rolleyes:
