head gaskets again

GUYS IM GOING TOO BE ASSEMBLING FRESHLY REBUILT ENG SOON
I HAVE THE STOCK GM STEEL HEAD GASKETS AND NEW TTY BOLTS WHAT DO YOU GUYS RECOMMEND,NO SEALER AND 80LBS OR SOME TYPE OF SPRAY SEALER AND 75 LBS PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IS RECOMMENDED....TIA

I VERY light coat of spray on copper silicone works fine on both sides of the gasket.

TTY head bolts ??????

hot air blocks dont use torqe to yeild head bolts so make sure you have the right bolts for the block you have.

if the threads in the block for the head bolts come to the deck surface then it dont use tty bolts

HEY RED I READ THAT IN LATE 85 THEY USED TTY HEAD BOLTS....I ALSO ORDERED NEW BOLTS FOR AN 85 FROM POSTONS SO I GUESS WE WILL SEE WHAT THEY SEND...IM ALSO GOING TOO CHECK MY BOLTS AGAIN AND MAKE SURE MAYBE ILL TAKE A PIC FOR YOU GUYS TOO SEE SO I KNOW FOR SURE....

HEY RED I JUST WENT TOO THE GARAGE AND THESE BOLTS ARE DEFINATELY TTY BOLTS REMEMBER THIS IS A LATE 85 WITH 20 BOLT PAN...SO WHAT DO YOU THINK?????

mine is 20 bolt too and used regular head bolts (look like old chevy bolts) and i just reused mine when i did the motor and now that its apart i will use them again when it goes back together
i'll look at the markings on them and let you know whats on the head of them later.

HEY RED TAKE A LOOK AT THE PIC....GO TO PHOTOPOINT.COM AND PUT NOKA72@AOL.COM IN THE VISIT FRIENDS ALBUM SECTION.....AS YOU SEE THE NEW BOLTS POSTON SENT ME AND THE TTY BOLTS I TOOK OUT OF THE ENGINE SEE THE DIFFERENCE I DONT THINK I AM GOING TO USE THEM MAYBE I WILL TRY THE DEALER OR ARP.
THE BOLTS ARE DIFFERENT IN MANY WAYS SO I DONT FEEL SAFE USING THEM.....ANY INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECEATED....TIA

weird yours did have tty bolts the others you have dont look like tty bolts but hard to tel..

is there any markings n the heads of the new bolts?

my 85 motor dont have tty's and it had never been apart till i went into it

i think id opt for arps in your case i just torqued the arp's down on my 87 motor

look at the deck of the block and see if the head bolt threads come up to the deck or start about 3/4 inch down below deck if the threads come to the top you should order arp's for 84-85 but if they dont come to the top then you need 86-87 bolts

Hey guys....I hate to throw a wrench in late in the thread here...but...when my motor was apart my head bolts were TTY. The shop even made a point of telling me so when I stopped by to see how it was commin along. Orig. bolts were stetched so had to use new ones...

I think prob from GM...if ur stuck I could call him to see what he used...might have been aftermarket bolts not GM.....

WELL I SENT BACK THOSE BOLTS FROM POSTON...I WENT TOO THE DEALER AND THE BOLTS ARE DISCO....SO NOW I WILL HAVE TOO CALL THE SHOP AND ASK HIM TOO CHECK MY BLOCK LIKE YOU SAID RED AND HOTSIX IF YOU CAN CALL THEM I WOULD APPRECIATE IT...THANKS VINNY
