Hey Bruce,I bought the direct stock replacement header about 5 years ago.i put about 5,000 miles on it.I didn't think ATR'S cracked though.Although i believe its coming from the passengers side I will check the ATR'S out anyway just to make sure because its hard to pinpoint where the noise is directly coming from. Thanks for informing me.

Hey Matt just wondering on your post where it says 60-1 BB.Does that mean your running a big block engine with the 60-1???That would explain why it spools so fast because of the big V-8 compared to the little V-6.Im not sure if you meant that??

It wasn't cracked, they just forgot or missed, finish welding it together.

Man talk about getting a bad luck header and hearing that for 2 years.I have heard mine for 1 month and its driving me crazy.I heard squirting some automatic transmission fluid into one of the vacuum lines could show where the leak is coming from. There would be white smoke coming out wherever the exhaust leak or leaks are. This was already posted from a tip on this subject.Just wondering if this would hurt any parts??

You could use any vacuum line that goes to the black metal pipes on the throttle body. Just make sure that there are no check valves in line, the little black discs spliced into the vacuum line. I personally use the line that goes to the vapor canister, easiest to get to.

Don't use the vacuum line that goes to the Racegate. I did once and somehow I got ATF in the Racegate. I just had to take it apart and clean it and it was fine.

Thanks for getting back to me Billy on this,is this tip on the ATR fluid thats been around awhile???Any automatic transmission fluid??? I only say that because i have a brand new turbo less then 150 miles on it.I remember you said it won't hurt anything though. It sounds like something in my application that would need to be done because i have no clue where it is exactly leaking and im tired of taking off the turbo using copper gaskets, not using copper gaskets, using just Ultra Copper.I am almost positive that i do not have a crack in my passenger side header because i sent it out to get checked and the guy inspected it for hairline cracks and could not find any and he asked me what do i want to do to it.So i think the problem is with the warpage of the headers to the engine or warpage from the turbo to header flange.i am a little hesitant of doing this only because i have never heard of anyone doing this before but Im no pro and you know more tips on these cars then me.So just squirt some ATR in the metal pipe where thhose from the vacuum cannister is.Is it bad to squirt to much or just see where it starts smoking to pick up the exhaust leak?? Thanks for the tip. Appreciate it Realspool

I asked a question about using ATF once and was told it would probably kill the oxygen sensor and could also harm a catalytic converter if you are running one. Just something to look out for......

GM Top Engine Cleaner has been known to cause enough white smoke to find exhaust leaks. ;)

Do a search on that and see if you want to try that stuff.

Comes with it's own set of worries such as plugs and perhaps carbon chunks going through the turbo exhaust wheel.

Never had a problem with it myself but don't use it much anymore with alky. injection.

I guess the engine has to be Hot or at normal operating temperature before squirting ATF fluid through to see the white smoke???? Do some guys use GM top engine cleaner the same way as ATF?? I don't have to worry about the Cat i don't have one and im not worried about the 02 sensor, just worried about the new turbo 150 miles on it. Thanks

I fixed my postons by welding the passenger side, but I think the drivers might be leaking a tiny bit. You should be able to see carbon coming from the leak with visual inspecion, but the ATF sounds like a good idea.

Yeah I will never find this exhaust leak so I think that using Automatic Transmission fluid through the metal line is a good solution. The only thing is Im not sure about how much and how fast of the fluid should i squirt in there??? And also i would assume to let the engine get hot before squirting the ATF in.Any one know should this be done when the engine is hot??? I would assume so but just want to make sure. Thanks for any opinions

Realspool, the 60-1 is still made to this day by turbonetics. i had a stage three cheetah with a 3000stall orange stripe and that combo spooled as good as stock, since then i changed to a 9.5" vigilante l/u with the 60-1 ball bearing and even with the .82 housing it spools very fast, blows away 275-60 bf drag radials in any gear but overdrive. i still think you need to make sure your header is not warped. good luck!

its from precision with a precision .63 housing. on my first test drive it felt slower compared to my stocker, but not by much. just enough to notice it was "different". but spools up plenty fast and is not slow by any means. if it spooled up any faster, i'd toast the tires even faster that i already do :p im more than happy with it.

Hey Brian i have the same exact PTE-44 turbo from Precision. When you first took it out you said it seemed slower then the stock turbo.Did you feel a noticable lag??The reason is that precision's exhaust housings are alot bigger then the stock housing.the Garret .63 housing is what I have been thinking of swapping even though the Precision exhaust Housing is more sufficient for racing on the top end.

like i said, it just felt "different". it was also a heck of a lot faster as my stocker was slowly dying. this turbo, imo, doesnt lag at all. its perfect, for me anyway.

Yeah brian i thought you said it was a bit sluggigh at first.Good to hear that you like the turbo and it spools fast.I decide Im keeping my PTE-44 turbo and of course the exhaust housing.

at first it seemed that way, but im pretty sure it was all in my head. ive since driven in a stock turbo car (my dad's) and the spool up is pretty much the same, mine just makes more boost and is much faster :D

Hey Brian I was just wondering what converter you were using with yourPTE-44??I am using a stock D5 3000 converter.I heard of the 3000 orange stripe converter and 3200 Vigilante converters some guys use for this turbo.Just wondering what you have?
