How tolerant are heated 02's to leaded race fuel. Took my car out for a little test and tune on the backroads with some C-16 last weekend. I didn't even put on 15 miles and the new 1-wire sensor I put in was already throwing a code 13.

This thing just eats 02's for breakfast, dinner, and supper.

Do you think a heated one will last alot longer.

Thanks

86 TR,

I haven't any experience with the heated 02 sensors, but do use the Denso 234-1001 (1-wire sensor). I go through about 2 per year, running 110 leaded fuel. Just thought I'd let you know of another option, incase you didn't already.

I've used a Caspers Heated O2 with about 15-20 gallons of leaded 116 and not had a problem...been lead free now with the alky for about 1.5 years on that same O2 used with the leaded fuel.
I've heard the Denso's as mentioned above work great with lead too.

Did you by chance use a Bosch? Those don't last long even with unleaded fuel.

I will ask a stupid question at the risk of being bashed but what the heck. I run leaded 110 pump gas and never had a problem with an 02 sensor. Why run leaded 116? Does it realy give you that much improvement? I usually mix 110 and 93 for about 101 octane. My car will run high 10's on that.

86TR - why do you run 116 leaded? Just curious.

I run the C-16 mostly because I have turned up my boost to 27+ psi. Any other less octane fuel was causing detonation in my car. Once I get the alky I might mix race fuel with the alky.

The sensor I bought was a standard brand engine oxygen sensor from my local auto parts store.

I use a Bosch 13953 - has 2 white and one black wires. Black wire to the o2 sensor (red) plug and ground one white and apply 12v (switched - key on) to the other white - no polarity for the 12volts. This gives you a heated o2 for about $35-40 from Auto Zone, Advance Auto, O'Reilly's. I have only ran leaded fuel a few times but I heard this set up works pretty well. I am sure there are other ways to do it but this has worked for me for the last 3 years.

I have only run about 22lbs on a TE67 so far. I plan to add alky and up the boost after I get my 6-point cage installed.

A heated O2 will last longer than a stock-type sensor but lead will still destroy it eventually. If you want to keep the stock one get a Denso. I bought a pair of them a few years ago so I'd have a spare. After running a lot of leaded gas through the car the spare is still collecting dust on a shelf in the garage.

breiter, you don't need the higher octane for several reasons, you have much better flowing heads to make more power with less boost, which means cooler air charge. I'm guessing that 86TR still has stock unported heads based on the rest of his setup. And 22# boost for your setup should only need 101 unleaded if that. The 116 comes into play when you have more than about 24# from what I've found with my 100% stock long block. I've ran 101 with 22# and stock turbo with no knock hundreds of times...the bigger the turbo the cooler that 22# will be as well.

86TR, the problem with your O2 not lasting long is because it was not a Denso or even an AC Delco single wire. The Bosch and other brand single wire O2 simply are junk for our cars. A heated one of any brand should last a little longer than a single wire Denso or AC as the heat will help a little from keeping the O2 from getting contaminated with lead before its up to operating temp. The heated O2 I have is an NGK brand that Caspers sells.

BTW, Denso O2's for $23 each..pretty good price, the lowest I've seen them was around $19 from a local distributor.

Throw the heated o2 in the trash, put a stock AC delco sensor, alky kit, 93 pump gas and call it a day.;)

I fought the fouled o2 sensor thing with race gas for 2 years till someone much older and wiser than myself said "Young grasshopper, come join the alky crowd and be free from your sensor troubles":D
