My 2 cents!

The real purpose of a heated O2 sensor is so the engine can go into closed loop quicker. In closed loop, it takes accurate readings from the sensors so the computer can determine air/fuel mix, timing, and so on.. Without a heated O2 sensor, you have to wait longer for the exhaust to get to normal operating temperature before the computer starts taking readings. HTH
