My heater core just started leaking. Where can I get a new one and how much of a hassle it to replace?

Thanks!

Den

As for the heater core itself.... you will want to remove it first, and carry it with you to the auto parts storeS... you may have to visit several, as they can vary with respect to form/exactness of fit.... I got mine at advance auto for like $18.99 and it was IDENTICAL to the original... others not so much, and for some, not so lucky.... nos4gn has 'em, but for way more $$ than the box stores...

edit: here: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/general-turbo-buick-tech/304520-where-buy-new-heater-core.html

I have a post in there with the specific unit I bought.... that should help....

When I got my core from Oriles we had to look at sevral before finding one. The one I ened up using was for a Monti carlo The one they had listed for the t-buick was way off.

Make sure you find the one way down in the corner covered with sealer or your crack the lid.

The one I have is a little different then stock. It’s an all aluminum one only I paid like $20 for it was a little narrower but other than that it worked good. If you want a sure thing I would just get one from Brian @ gbody

Thanks guys for all the input, this helps a bunch. I was scratching my head, but now have some direction.

again,

Thank you

Dennis

Does anyone have the brand and item number for the windshield sealer in ribbon form or as some people call it the 'elephant dung' sealer I’ve gone to autozone and pepboys but can’t seem to find it and no one there seems to know what I’m talking about.

3m Strip-Calk. Comes in a blue box of strips.

x2 on Strip caulk. Mine had adhesive sealant everywhere, so my heater box cover is in pieces now. :) I have two weeks to find a suitable replacement before the big car show. I have to keep my win streak alive!

As noted, the directions on gnttype.org are incorrect. There are more screws than noted. If you have a tough time popping the cover off, relax and look for more screws buried under sealant gunk.

Metro 'Supersoft' Ribbon Sealer... 'windshield replacement kit'... roll of 1/2" wide elephant dung identical to the original stuff.... got mine at Autozone in the body repair section....
