I definatly have a large heater core leak.

Can you guys tell me the best way to do this?

GnTType says to do the procedure from the outside in the engine bay, but a quick search shows guys doing though the inside???

What is the best way to do this and pics would help too.

Thanks,
Josh

The heater core comes out through engine compartment. you have to pull top of hvac box off and heater core pulls out . it sounds easy but its not for someone that never did one. there is some hidden screws under cowl screen. get a chilton book .It tells you how to do it. there is no way for it to come from inside car. have fun

The most important part of that job is resealing the cover when you put it back on. IT WILL LEAK INTO YOUR CAR EVERYTIME IT RAINS if its not sealed.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I guess I will follow instructions on GNTType. IS there one sealant that works better than the other for resealing the cover?

Anything else to watch out for? I am going to start this project this afternoon.

I just did it last week, it's fairly easy, just remember to pull your passenger windshield wiper off before trying to take the cover off. It's a bunch of little screws, similar looking but different sizes, I would keep them seperated so you don't screw up the reinstallation. I used black RTV sealant to seal mine back up. Be sure to get all the old stuff off, I used a screwdriver handle to beat lightly tap the outside edge and get all the crusty RTV off. Then I put a modest amount on the inside lip to create a gasket, then smathered a large portion all the way around the firewall area and smoothed it over with a finger.

done

I finished the project in about 2 hours working time taking extra care with silicon and all the small stuff.

Fairly easy deal, thanks to those who replied.

Napa sells the core for $31.79
