Heater troubleshooting

Blows air but its not really warm at all. Going to put in a new F body rad pretty soon. Im going to try flushing out the heater core. Any other simple steps I could do to troubleshoot this?
 
You can feel the valve to see if it's hot make sure there is vacuum at the valve to make it work

You can remove the valve and if you have a mity vac you can draw a vacuum on the valve and look through the valve and you will see it open.

If you don't have a hand held vac pump you can plug the coolant hoses and hook the vac line that normally runs the valve and have someone turn on the heat.
