sa2000 is the automotive rating, whereas m2000 is the motorcycle rating. The SA rating is generally a little more expensive, it adds a few tests that the m rating is not subjected too.

I think SA is the one with the fireproof liner, or is it SN?

Anyway, most places will accept the M2000, the fireproof lined S_2000 is only required for professional class racing or alcohol fueled cars.

Watch eBay, I got a brandy new Simpson Voyager for less than have what a new one goes for. Search for Simpson and keep checking back. There's some pretty nice ones on there. Just make sure you measure correctly. My Simpson is snug and I measured more than once.

Better yet go to your local speed shop and try a couple on to get your size right.

They should be a little snug though.

You are right about the numbers though. The more expensive helmets have the Nomex lining which is required in certain classes including the alcohol fueled class.

HTH!

Bought a brand new M2000 rated helmet at the local bike shop for under $80. All local tracks accept it fine!

check the bike shops. Most have "previously worn" helmets for sale as they don't like to sell "used" helmets. I got one for $50

The SA2000 do have the Nomex liner compared to the nylon one in the M2000. Craig, if you are going to be up near Hanover Park anytime soon, check out DRE, Inc. You can give them a call at 630-213-1010. They have good prices and great service. They always have alot of helmets in stock. This is where I bought the wifes helmet. They will make sure that the helmet you buy fits properly and is what you need. HTH.;)

I went up to my local bike shop and bought an open face helemet by HJC for $100. A nice black one with 2 silver stripes. Should be testing it out on Sat at Byron if it's not hot out.
