It's true. With timing feature utilized, 3" sensor caused a rougher idle than the 3.5" sensor. Could be that newer versions of the Translator Plus don't have this problem but it was found to be true on my car and two others. Extender chip did help but in all cases, street manners were further improved by bypassing the timing feature or by switching to a 3.5" sensor. Curiously, cam and injector size were a non-issue. One car has 009's with a stock cam, another has 009's and a 214 cam and mine has 55's and at that time a 218 cam. Wish it wasn't true because it was a pain to figure out the problem.

Well, I'm running one theeee oldest Translators (+) that's out there, trust me. Even though the firmware is modern, back when I had version 1.0 or so, I didn't notice any rough idling on the 3" sensor, and I've always had the timing feature hooked up.

With a few Indian tricks, it is possible for me to get OK idle with the timing feature connected but for some reason, car will be running fine and then just shut off. Usually at a stop light when the AC is running. It seems that the timing feature slows the reaction time for computer to compensate for the on and off cycling of the AC. Maybe I have a defective Translator. Just don't know. Whatever the case, problems disappear when timing feature is bypassed. Nonetheless, stop lights and AC are not a problem on track days. Able to take full advantage of the timing feature on these days.

In your message, you mention that you now have a newer version of the Translator. Please advise advantages of updating and also advise if you updated your extender chip. Finally, where can I send my Translator to have it checked?
