Here's the deal, my father passed away a year ago.He left me his 86 T Type that he bought brand new in 86.It know has 143,000 miles on it.He had the trans rebuilt 2 months before he pasted away. I hooked up the turbo link and noticed the 3rd and 4th gear switch on in park!I checked the plug on the trans, all connections open.Pulled the pan on the trans, all the wires cut off inside. At this point i am pissed,my question is this the correct valve body.I think the trans shop stole the valve body. There is only one switch on the valve body.Should there be two switchs?I checked the trans id tag it reads BRF.So they didnt switch the trans. The valve body that is curently in the trans reads BR1 with the pink paint on the sides with one switch.Should it read BR3,to be the correct valve body? Thanks for the help Guys!!!

All 84-87 Turbo Buicks and 89 TTA's will have 2 pressure switches.
The correct valve body for an 86-87 will have the pink paint markings and the will be a "BR3" in black in on the side (driver side when installed) of the valve body. BRF is the coding for the transmission itself by the tag on the tailshaft and sometimes the paint.
I know the 83 Model Turbo Buicks had some sort of BR coded 2004r but they should only have one pressure switch. Regardless I would be screaming at the owner of that trans shop. There should be no reason why they swapped that valve body. Only time the pressure switches wouldnt be needed is if the shop installed a non lock convertor.

Thanks Gnvair, the valve body is missing the switch on the side. The one on the top is there. There is a treaded plug in the side where the switch is missing.Like it had been removed and plugged.I dont know where my dad had the tranny rebuilt. They clipped all the wires inside the tranny to.The valve body has the pink paint on the side, but the stamp reads BR1.The id tag on the tranny reads BRF.Looks like i have to get a valve body and new wiring . Thanks

That statement is entirely false as the carbureted 83's had a BR coded valve body that is entirely different than the units used on the 86-87's. The 83's did not have the 3rd gear pressure switch. Only the 4th as did all the other TH2004r valve bodies not installed in the 84-87 Turbo Buicks OR 89 Turbo Trans Am.
Now, if there is a pipe plug threaded into the valve body where the other switch is supposed to be, then it might be the correct one, because all the non turbo Buick valve bodies that I have seen will usually have a welsh plug in that hole.
I'm sure one of the tranny pros on here could help you with it.

Yes Lee is right

However two things need to be considered. Does it have a tcc valve plug and if so just tap and thread another switch in the direct port and go. If has a tcc valve then a little more needs to be done but you are still ok. I would ck to see if they didnt build it non lockup. Very possible...

Thanks guys, the tcc solenoid is in place with the wires cut off.So it looks like i will buy two switches and a new solenoid to be safe. The wiring is cut back at the plug inside, can this plug on the side of the trans and wiring be bought. Or can i wire it myself, and does someone know. What color wires go to the switchs and solenoid in relation to the plug on the outside. Thanks guys you kick ass !!!

the early turbo regal valve bodys (pre 86)were coded bq on the trans and on the valve body, used a different servo than the 86/87s,and used the same governor as the 86 / 87s.you have the correct parts .as far as 2 tapped holes go ,with or without a pressure switch installed ,these are only present on 85 86 87 turbo regals monte carloss ho motor, turbo ta ,and hurst olds ho motor.if they were all the same that means the 200 plus we have in stock wouldnt be worth anything ...........stop drooling ouut there .........www.ckperformance.com
