Hi, guys. Just got my set of GTA wheels painted up and ready to put on the ttype. The GTA FRONTS are on the rear of the car with 255/50R16 tires. The GTA REARS are on the front of the car with 245/50R16 tires. Cool huh? Nope. The wheel shop said I needed a 1/4" spacer, but of course that didnt work. So I ordered the spacers that everyone said they ran on the GTA REAR wheels which is 7/16". Kinda big, but it gave me the clearance I needed. Time to tighten down the lugs. I get 3.5 solid turns on them. But I dont like that. I have heard 4-5 is a must. I tried using those lug nuts that "reach" down another 1/4" or so, but they dont fit through the darn GTA wheel holes!!!!!!!! But, they fit through my Ttype wheel holes???? WTF?!?!

So here are my options.......

1. Grind on the lug nuts so they fit inside the GTA wheel holes.......(already tried, not looking good)

2. Get the wheels drilled by a wheel shop or machine shop so that the conical reaching lugs work.

3. Try a 3/8" spacer and possible get 1 more turn on the lug nuts, but possible run into clearance problems again with the tie-rod ends.

4. Get longer studs in front, but Ive heard its not even worth the trouble.

5. Sell the damn wheels and forget it.

Please let me know what you guys are running. No, Im not buying 2 more fronts. No, Im not moving the rears to the rear of the car, and the fronts to the front of the car, it will look ridiculous to me. I know I seem hard headed, but I have seen TRs with the GTAs like this.......are they driving around with 3 turns on their lug nuts too??????????? Thanks guys, I need to go relax now......wheres the keg........

TTA Wheels

Neil,
I would just go with the longer stud, all you are looking for is better engagment on the stud. Right! A longer stud will give you more meat for the factory nut to ride on.

Neil, I have not seen you in a while. Hows it going? I used 1/2" spacers and changed to a longer stud. I think I still have the part numbers of the longer studs I used if you want them. I then used the GTA lug nuts and plastic covers that came with the wheels. It is not hard to change the studs. They knock out with a big hammer and the new ones can be pulled back in with the lug nuts.

GTA rims

Had the same problem, but then I found some real gnx through the dealer at 500bucks a crack(canadian). If you can find another set of front rims and put 4 fronts around you car you sould be fine.If you put 255/50/16 tires on the back you will need a thin spacer just because going around some tight turns it will rub a little.Hope that helps.:)

89indyTA has it right!!!

Just go with 1/2" spacers, and longer studs...worked for me!...and no, it doesn't look like the wheels "stick out" farther than the rears...if you wanted to know..;)

John

Jeasen, could you please post the part#? Do you think they are the same as the rear? TIA

It took some looking but I found it. I used studs made by Dorman, Part #610-323, the size is M12-1.5X54.0MM. As I said above, I used a 1/2" spacer and the stock lug nuts with the plastic covers.
