Didnt see any markings at all on this converter, have the receipt from the previous owner for a trans rebuild and it just says "replace tq converter", no info given. Wondering if its correct for the car.

Looks like a 10" converter? measure the shim between the converter and flywheel..looks excessive?
'

Figured it wasnt stock. Why would someone put a 10" converter in a car with a stock turbo? Guess thats why the car feels so slow compared to other turbo cars ive owned.

Which shim are you talking about?

Shim..the round area that the bolt goes through and touches flywheel. If you remove the 3 converter bolts you have to be able to push converter towrds pump of tranny at least a quarter inch...if not it's to tight agains flywheel. You can also brake stall the car to figure how much stall it has..power brake car check rpm at 0 boost and then at 5psi..may not even have lock up? It has to go if you'r keeping stock turbo.Figuring out stall will help you sell the converter? Hope this is helpfull;)

It does pull away from the flywheel when unbolted. Locks up @ 45mph just like a stocker. I'll have to check the stall speed again, pretty sure it was right around 2000, but that doesn't make much sense. It's been in there for around 60k since I bought the car. Runs great, just feels like I'm dragging cement from a dead stop, extremely slow spool up.

In 1987 I installed a 10" converter in my stock T-type and it is much better in response and pulling power than the stock D5 converter. We have used many 10" converters in small turbo cars with good results. o_O

A guess would be that converter was for a V-8, or other non-turbo application?

Really? That's interesting. I'll have to check the stall again. I would ask the original owner but lost contact a few years ago.

No, pretty sure thats just reflections from the camera. Would make sense though if it was.

Now that I think about it when I got my chip from Eric I told him it was s stock converter. Now that I know its not, should I have the chip reburned, or will it not make much of a difference?
