Help Gents!

20 Amp Radio Antenna Fuse, Keeps blowing!! It also has the Cigarette lighter, hood light, interieor lights, as well on this. What keeps blwing this? It happens spuradically....

Please help if anyone has had the same thing, and great success getting it fixed!

Let me guess, got an aftermarket radio? Pull the radio out and check the connections and the wires on the red wire, yellow wire. and the separate 2 wire connector that I believe is brown and yellow with a white stripe?? I don't know, been a while but there's only one connector with 2 wires and one of those is probably shorting cause ALL those lights to go out. Usually when those radio fuses blow they just take the cig and the dome and floor lights with it and dash still work. You must have 2 wires touching or one wire touching bare metal. Pull it out and take a look, probably won't take long.

Thanks but, I have the stock radio in my car. I noticed when I put the cigarette lighter in, it blows the 20 amp fuse almost on a dime.

Any ideas?? Anyone else blow this fuse while putting in the cigarette lighter?

Thanks

My girlfriend's Firebird does, she said she had 2 Camaros that did the same, so she gave up on the cigarette lighter in the car, I replaced it and it blew the fuse first time used. I assumed it was because the lighter is in the console and the wire is tightly squeezed in there, thought it might be shorting on the metal bracket for the console, but that shouldn't be a problem with ours.

I found that the guy I bought my car from had an aftermarket stereo and amp in the car. Used the power from the cig lighter to run the stereo. It pulled so much power that it melted the orange wire in the harness . had to pull the dash apart to find it. Other than that, replace the lighter assembly and try again. HTH

Yup, I'd bet a lot of money its a shorting cig lighter too :) Your question was one of my first posts here years ago, and Ken Mosher answered it correctly. :)

I will look for that also, had the hatch carpeting out, and there is wiring for an amp in the Firebird. Could be the culprit.
