Well I plan to be building my car to almost 600 hp this winter with a PT51. However I know my stock transmission won't hold it. That's where I need help. Automatic trnasmissions are like a foreign language to me. I need a little help knowing what parts I need to upgrade and with what, so if someone could tell me what parts need to be upgraded, a sugested part, and possibly somewhere to get it it'd be greatly appreciated. I have a a few local friends who can build the transmission for me but I was going to try to find out the weak spots of the transmission for them.

Also if someone could give me a rough estimate in price to rebuild it without labor that'd be nice so I know about how much I need to start saving for.

Firebird, give us a call and I will go oever everything with you and explain why you need what you are after to make this thing live and live hard.

Thanks, Mark (916)739-0510

Mark I was looking at your site for some ideas beofre. I will make sure to call you sometime this week. It'll probably end up being ont he weekend sometime because I don't have much time between school and work.

I'm still open to comments form other people too.

Save your money,
order your kit from www.bulkpart.com

Look in GM trans section, then the 200-4R section under Hi performance rebuild kits, get the entire alto red kit with stock steels.

Order a Superior billet servo, Alto Red Eagle band, TransGo Hi-Rev pump kit, new hardened sun shell and stator, bushing kit, thrust kit, and I like the TransGo Reprogramming kit.

It is VERY similar to the PTS kit but includes all the pressure regulator stuff and the .500 boost valve and larger reverse boost valve.

Then order the billet forward drum from CK performance or PTS, CK is cheaper by about 25-30%.

Could you list the part numbers on those things? I tried finding some of them but couldn't find them all off of your description.

Wow looks liek this is going to be cheaper than what I originally thought. I thought my project was going to be majorly delayed because of the transmission costing about $2k by itself but it looks like it'll only cost around $1k if I have someone build it for free (or pretty much next to free).

Question for jakeshoe

Hey, I'm also about to rebuild my trans execpt for a stock motor.
I found a Art Carr shift kit and a CCS in the trunk when I bought the car so I was planning on using those parts. I was also thinking about holding off on the super servo for money reasons.
Jakeshoe, could you please explain some of the pump parts you suggested. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Pump parts are:
TransGo Hi-rev pump kit is chromoly "unbreakable" rings, should be used on any build and a different slide spring to prevent it from centering at high rpm and losing pressure.

New stock slide, rotor, guide, and vanes in 10 vane form. The late model 200's had 10 vane but it is a good idea to replace all parts and check pump clearances.

New stator in case yours isn't hardened.

Art Carr kit should work fine.
