Hey guys I know that this is probably a dumb question, but after dumping so much money into buying this thing (which is already out of warranty) I don't want to break anything.

I went to change the fuel filter. First off just let me say that holy crap that filter is huge! Anyways, I know that I need to remove the float. But how? I was afraid to get the pliers on that flimsy plastic piece that is the float.

So help me out here guys. How does that thing come out? How tight should the float be? How tight should the new filter be? And, while I'm asking questions, how exactly do I bleed the system before I start it? Do I crack that screw on the top and then pump the bulb until fuel comes out of the screw?

Thanks guys!

I have someone do the filter for me. He puts the old filter in a vice and CAREFULLY loosens it. You are correct about the bleeding. Open screw and pump till bled. If it won't start, bleed some more. BTW, I have an 01 CC SB and love it. I put Hypertech on it last year and what a difference!

Disconnect water sensor miniharness, unscrew filter (I use a strap wrench). After removing filter, I use a large pair of adjustable pliers to carefully remove the large plastic piece w/o rounding it off. As confirmed above, yes, bleed via the top screw after installing new filter. Hope that's what you were asking about.

my way

I did it differently at the dealer, but not stating above is incorrect. I used an oil filter type strap wrench as well after unplugging water sensor. I too used adjusted wrench to remove bottom plastic hex type plug, replaced o-ring on plug then re-installed onto new filter. Install new oring in top and screw back on. (Normally you have to pull the filter upwards to get the fuel filter to start onto threads while turning.) When finished, I never bleed it off, I just primed it with the pump (pump till it gets resistence) Start engine. Ive had alot die within 7 -10 seconds or so. Pump again till there is resistence, and normally its good to go from there. Pay close attention to the oring on top, it tends to want to walk on ya!

oh, and as far as tight, I wouldnt get nutty on that! Hand tight only! Remember, you might be the one that has to take it off in the future, and its NO fun if it was overtightened!;)

Thanks for all the info again guys.

I've seen that website before but had completely forgotten about it until now.

You guys rock!

Re: my way

Were you putting any fuel in the filter before mounting it? I hear horror stories about air in the lines. But I'm probably over paranoid as usual.

I wasnt putting any in, but would assume it would speed up the priming process! But again, I NEVER did. :D
