Had a funny noise from the engine just before I put the car away for the winter, so I decided to pulled the engine out a couple days ago. Took it to the machine shop and we found the thrust bearing laying in the bottom of the oil pan. Help, what could have caused this and how do I keep it from happing again? Thanks in advance.

If you are referring to the end play at the input shaft of the tranny then yes, it is around 1/8 of an inch. The torque convert also show no visible signs of ballooning.
