hello all,
i recently purchased an 86 gn i have some knowledge about the cars, but have no hands on experience tuning them, the car seems to knock once it begins building boost, id say arond 7psi or so,..i was wondering if there is anyone in the area with a scan tool and ..tools in general since i have none here who would be willing to show me a thing or 2 on these cars, id liek to get it goin back up to par ,ive been reading a lot lately, but for me theres only so much reading i can do,i would learn better by seeing it/doing it. thanks

I hope your at least using 92 octane gasoline. Even then, I wouldn't expect the car to go over 14 psi without knock retard. If it still does, maybe your fuel regulator or fuel pump is not up to par. There are still many variables that will cause this problem and they must be eliminated in sequence.
Good luck,
Koa:confused:

When I bought my GN years back it did the same thing. It was a bad coil pack. It could be MANY things unfortunately. I am willing to help sometime. I have a bunch of tools for the work, but I also have long hours at work. Just let me know if you need help. I do have an old coil pack we could try swapping in to see if the symptoms change. Also, make sure you do the spring cleaning that is on GNTTYPE.ORG. That will generally do wonders to cars that have been daily drivers for years with no maintenance really done on them.
