It's been sitting for about 3 weeks so I decided to take it out for a ride. Everything seems fine. My dad said I didn't let it warm up long enough. It ran for 5 minutes before I pulled out. I was really easy on it and started up a hill at about 45 mph and when I gave it gas to downshift to continue up the hill, it lost all power and started cutting out really bad. At idle is seems o.k., but when I give it gas, it sputters and misfires. I've had fuel pumps go bad on other cars and it seems exactly like one. Haven't checked fuel pressure yet but that's first one the list. Any other ideas? Any help is very appreciated. Thanks, Tim

does it feel like the car is bucking, like all power stops for a moment and then resumes, and keeps repeating that sorta cycle? im guessing its load sensitive?

or is it real choppy when its cutting out under load?

i would guess a MAF or coil pack(if it feels like an ignition misfire...choppy)

There is no bucking, it doesn't pull at all. Lost all power. At idle it sounds fine, but as soon as you give it gas, it misses bad. Scanmaster has no codes. I had a pump go out in my old Beretta and it did the exact thing. Walbro pump if you haven't noticed. I've heard of these going bad.

this is always why you should have an extension on your fuel pressure gauge so you can diagnose fuel problems. it sounds like a maf.

if in park you can ease it fro idel up to 3500 or so without it dropping dead its the coil/module, if it starts breaking up right away go get a known good maf.

My MAF hose popped off of the turbo Friday and had the same symptoms.

Had the same symptoms when my msd 6AL went out on me, could be an ignition thing. I had a big nasty backfire to go along with the missing though.

Tap the maf sensor lightly with the car running and see if it sputters or stalls, if it does replace the maf.

in order... verify fp rising 1:1 with boost, maf, coil pack.... sounds more like a pump going south or the maf to me.... but could easily be any of the three....

sounds simple, but check your chip too.Make sure it is inn and seated correctly.Check the list of items posted here one at a time.Stay out of it until you verify your fuel pressure.

wow! thanks for all of the replys

I haven't had a chance to check anything but will check it out this weekend. The maf has never been replaced and it is the factory one. The coils are pretty new. I did not see any hoses off. Everything under the hood looks fine. I'd rather replace the maf instead of the fuel pump. This cold weather is a good test for anything. Thanks alot for everyones input. You guys are always a great help. Does anyone around northeast MD have a known maf for me to try out if the fuel pressure is good? I'll keep everyone posted on what it is. Thank, Tim

Our gas gauges arent very accurate, is it possible that your very low on gas?

I had one loose fuel sitting in front of the house during the summer... Went and hit the key and the car wouldnt start. Air pressure on the fuel rail was 40psi:eek: My fix was to put some gas in it LOL That was about 10 years ago...

maf it is!

Thanks for the help. Car stumbled bad when it was tapped on. I guess first maf problem with 91,000 isn't bad. At least it wasn't the fuel pump with a half tank of gas. I'll be looking for a good deal on one around here so keep your eyes open for me. Is the 3" ls1 maf a direct replacement? I have the hard maf pipe from trcustom.

As I recall the LS1 MAF is a 3 1/2 inch. I went with the 3 inch early 90's Caprice/Impala SS. Delphi part number AF10045. I also had to get a MAF translator in order to convert the signal to the ECM. This was not cheap~$400. I paid up front and avoided all the crappy original MAF and the reman. which really do not work right. Good luck- Brad

LT1/LS1 maf will require some version of MAF Translator from Full Throttle, and the adaptor harness to make it 'plug and play', which is not cheap. You'll need to figure out your best option of factory replacement type vs. lt1/ls1/translator based on your wallet....
