My son and I finished putting my 84 Ttype back together. We replaced the head and intake gaskets, had the intake manifold cleaned and heads cleaned, machined and the valves done. When we started it, the idle was very low, like, wanting to die low. Even after it warmed up, it was still low. When driving, it would pull strong at half throttle. However, at three quarter to full throttle it would hesitate up to around 45 mph. At 45 mph, it would seem to gather itself and start pulling again. It seems as though it wants to pull, but it’s like the engine is running out of breath. Could it be possible that I need to replace the fuel regulator with an adjustable one and up the pressure? The engine is all stock with the original injuctors. I would appreciate any and all input.
Thanks

just a suggestion

I would be willing to bet you might have a vacuum leak somewhere maybe at the base of the intake or even at the throttle body where it hooks to the turbo. I would check for those leaks and I would also check the maf sensor for trouble. Just that the car actually idles tells me the vac leak is not big because my 84 GN had a vac leak and it would crank run 3 secs and die. My leak ended up being at the metal egr pipe running from the valve to the intake at the back. How I checked for vac leaks was starting fluid, but you can use just about anything combustable. What you'd look for is a sudden increase in the idle when you're spraying the substance in different areas. Remember to try at the base of the egr and around the vac block on top of the throttle body. That's all I would know.

Well - all of my problems have been injector related with the same symptoms that you are describing...

You say u have the orig. injectors - are they cleaned and flow tested ?

Old gas only has to sit in them for awhile exposed to the air and they need a cleaning again.

Ask me how I know.

Pull the plugs and see what they tell u - if anything.

Next i'd prolly check the coilpack, ohms of the plug wires. Is it popping a SES code ?

No codes have come up, and I put injector cleaner in the tank. I have heard a lot about the direct scan and scan 2. Would they work on our Hot Air Buicks?

turbo link works on the 84/85 ecm, direct scan only works if you have upgraded to 86/87 ecm. Not sure about scan master...

Injector cleaner does about as much good as pee in the tank if your injectors are dirty.

They gotta be removed and cleaned at a shop - unless one is bad. But you could never tell unless you removed them.

Ive done it twice with 2 separate sets of injectors.

True but it gets you the important stuff especially the latest version. And Ken Mosher is one of the best when it comes to asking questions about the car as well. We have relied on him for years and he knows these cars...Great people!

Thanks for all the input Guys, I will be working on the car this weekend. I will also be saving for a scanner.
