Well after 2 years of the TSO class at the GS Nats, the aluminum rear wing on the car we built to compete in the class has been deemed ILLEGAL, the first time it has been mentioned at all was 2 weeks ago. I am going out on a limb here but.....If the car we put together ran in the 9's instead of the 8's at full weight, there would have been no mention of this. We put the wing on the car to make it more stable at speed, it doesnt make it hook better or make it run faster, it makes it more safe! What other TSO racer has a wing on their car? none is my guess... Did anyone email the GSCA and ask for them to make this illegal? If there is a legitimate reason, I sure would like to know. If we pull the wing off, is there gonna be any grief about the holes left in the decklid? maybe that would give us some kind of TOP SECRET aerodynamic advantage. Please post it !!!! THIS IS AN OUTLAW CLASS, I dont buy the reason, "it doesnt follow factory body lines" neither does the parachute hanging off the back, they are both for safety.
Not Happy:mad:

Bill,

If this was a real Outlaw class there would be a tire, suspension and maybe a weight break for heads. How is it oulaw with no wing, liquid to air intercooler, dry sump and twin turbo???

I would vote for the wing for safety.
Chow's car goes 171MPH with out one and it is a little harry. "not Hruska =)"

I am on your side.
I guess the chutes and cages take away from the "street" look too:confused:

Take the Street out of TSO, make it TO = Turbo Outlaw

Ugly?

Bill, funny how they let you run the car this year, but the minute Jeff's car runs in the 8's at Cecil and you ask for a clairification on the rule they decide to make a firm ruling that an aluminum rear wing is not allowed (and Jeff's car just happens to be the one car that has an aluminum rear wing)... HMMMMMM:rolleyes: :D

I'll admit that I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it seems like some politics might have been involved in this decision... Either that or maybe perserving the factory body lines are more important to the GSCA than the safety of the racers in the club! Nah, couldn't be;) :o In all honesty though you guys should be flattered! I mean the car was so fast that they decided to Outlaw it... If that's not Outlaw racing I don't know what is:eek:

Bill,

I think your being hung out to dry.The funny thing is if the car gets loose on the topend and wrecks the wing would become mandatory.I hope for "safety" reasons the powers to be change this rule.Good luck.Scott

I say fine on the wing, fine on the wheelie bars, while we're at it, let me in with my ladder bars and no wheelie bars. Instead, there may be 2 less cars racing in that class........ Way to get car count up.

James West, please respond to my E-mail to you reguarding rule changes. Does my membership get me those rights, or should that keep me from re-newing membership in a club who does not talk to thier members?

Bill, I guess you didn't get the note that this is now Turbo Sorta Outlaw.

I'm not surprised the "wing' was disallowed, but I don't think Cecil County had anything to do with it, or any member voting. I have to believe it was a decision from the top trying to maintain the stock body looks, the chute is simply an NHRA rule, the wing isn't. I myself agree with you Bill, the wing doesn't make the car faster. Having been the recipient of turbo rules for several years not being fair, I am just happy to see other turbo manufacturers besides PTE finally being allowed. Why not just take the wing off for BG and show em all what you have..........

We are about to put up the rules for the TSO series, you should be able to run there, as well as a few of the other cars that are eliminated from BG. I think a 5 race series is in the offering, just have to hammer that out. Keep an eye out on my BB for more details. Keep the faith, there will be competition for you and many others.

Don't feel bad Bill, seems there trying to "fix" TSM also, after all, look at the car counts, its not been working very well the last 3 years.......

Theres other choices out there now, build a car to run 1 race or build one to run 5 races........Thats a difficult choice now isn't?.....

Bill,
I agree with Jack, I don't believe the members had anything to do with the GSCA's decision on your car. Looking at the rest of the rules, I would say the racers input was a "guideline", not the final decision for the class rules. FWIW: I don't believe the rule against your wing is new, they just have never had the opportunity to enforce it.

With that said, I want to congratulate you guys on your times. I believe you are in the top 5 of the quickest GN-1 headed cars ever, and on you way to #1 when you turn things up!

Jack: I look forward to your rules and hope they are close to what we talked about.

Cal,
I was under the impression we were building a car for the OUTLAW class... Read the thread on the GSCA board, James stated he was looking for the racers in the class to vote, silence for 5 or 6 days then a ruling! There was never anything in the official rules for that matter mentioning it. We're not looking to be the fastest in the class or to get any unfair advantage, just wanted to race. It is a fun class, changing what we have around the rules for really no good reason is not fun. I dont understand why there is a problem with it but we'll handle it...

Bill,
I am glad to hear this. We need as many cars as we can get to run the class. Any chance your coming to Reynolds this weekend? I would love to run side by side with Jeff.

We planned on bring both cars down but D!psh!t forgot he had a wedding to go to and I cant handle all the stuff that needs to be done with my car by myself. Good luck, hope you run a number, gives us something to strive for!

P.S. If you ran side by side aginst him, you'd probably be at the 1/8 mile by the time he remembered he had a transbrake and your pass would be over by the time he figured out how to use it!!
