Yes, production numbers are low, but almost all were plain jane Camaro sport coupes with the 425 horse 427. You could go build a nice show quality big block 67-69 Camaro for under $40k.
I think most of those guys that spend that much money to own a real one is for bragging rights. Just like any other car collector out there.
The prices go through the roof on any car because the market drives the value. A car is worth what someone is willing to spend on it. That is how you have $500,000 hemi cuda converts and $1 million + Cobras, etc.
