hi family. I finally got my dream car, 87 grand nat ttop. She came last night on the car hauler. The car sat for some years and when we finally got her cranked white smoke came out for a second and then she idled really high. When you press the pedal to try to idle her down it idles higher. When under the hood and you press the lever the lever for the gas it does the same but if you press the top of the lever it idles down slightly. It idles so high like the motor gonna blow up. I know I got to get a scanner, but what should i look out for to fix til i do get one? thank you in advance

Is the throttle stuck? When you "press the lever" does it return to its starting position? If you think it's revving to the point of blowing up then don't start it again till you get a scanmaster. Period.

Try disconnecting cruise control cable. Same thing happened to mine. See how far throttle bracket is from the minimum air screw with gold cap on it. It should be touching it.

Thanks you'll for the great advice. It was the cruise control cable lol. I would've never thought to look there. My next question is, where do I get the clip that holds the throttle cable and cruise control cable on? Its missing! Im glad I haven't dtove it yet.

you should be able to get those clips at the auto parts store.

post some pics so we can look it over. The group on here has a lot of knowlege and may be able to spot trouble for you.

for instance. replace your wastegate hoses before doing any full throttle testing. overboost and detonation will break things.

Sweet! Glad I could help. A small cotter pin should temporarily hold it til you find the right one. Probably gbodyparts or highway stars also has them.

Ha! Nice! I don't know if I would've thought of that either. Good Stuff!
