Well the engine I have has a high volume pump. I just started it and the cold pressure is 60 psi and goes up to 70 to 80 psi. I don't like this at all. When it heats up it goes to 20 to 30 psi. What should I do.

What don't you like about it?
Those numbers don't seem too excessive. What oil are you using?

How do you know its HV? There could be a wear plate on there with stock gears?

That's what mine does. ...and I have the stock pump that has 80k. You are referring to idle rpm pressure?

Ok guys thanks. I assumed it was a hv but maybe it's not. I'll leave it alone.

I thought the same thing when I first drove mine. It did the same thing and still does even with 100k on it.

If you wanted to do something to it,maybe install a "biggie" oil filter kit from RJC. I believe the nut is 1 1/8,unscrew that and screw in the RJC fitting and put a much larger filter on. Goodbye tiny filter.

I run the "biggie" oil filter kit and a Baldwin B9. Baldwins are excellent filters.

I recommend that upgrade.

The standard oil pressure GM cars, starting in the 80s to current vehicles to include LS motors us 12psi per 1000 rpms. If you ever see your oil light come on then it means that your pressure is below 7 psi. Now your oil viscosity plays a part in your pressue. Oil is based on seasonal change. Here in Arizona, our winters are not baf. We can get away with an 30 weight oil. I 10w30...... The W stands winter. If you are holding 20psi idle warm and you have the correct oil.... You are a lucky man.

I run the larger filter too. And they are right about temp and viscosity. You ought to see the pressure you can hold here at about 15 degrees blow zero. o_O
