i've done a search on this but haven't found all i was looking for.

whats the advantage of the alluminum tanks? it semes to me they would just be extra weight. if a powerstroke can put 50# through them i wouldn't question its ability to handle the 25 i might give it.

i remember seeing somewhere that someone was making a pipe and mounting bracket kit for it. i could make up my own brackets but as for pipes, forget it. i can't fab up much, and if i have to weld much, haha not happening. if your going to try to encourage me, i'll take pictures of my welded downpipe. :D

i'm lost about what has to, and what doesnt' have to be cut. from what i'm understanding you have to cut the radiator support to get the pipes through. makes perfect sence. but what about the bumper supports, headlights, header piece? i've read where some people have cut all of those, some have cut none.

what year trucks am i looking for when i call around to junk yards?

and how much does this hurt the cooling system? i have one of nick micale's high effeciency radiator, right now on the hottest days with ac on i never see over 180 (stock ic) usualy it stays under 165. would i also need to get dual fans to keep up? i'm building this as more of a track car, but i definatly want to have the option of driving it any day i feel like it.

for $300 most people spend (from what i've seen) i don't know why i would want to go any other way. this is cheaper than a dutt neck and alky. it only makes sence.

any other advise? downsides?

Let's do hear more of the pro's and con's of this install from the guys that have done it.

Ron

One of the biggest pros besides the low price is it doesn't affect engine cooling. I ran a regular front mount for a while and it was hard to keep the car cool.

The installation was not fun but the results were worth it. Personally I wouldn't cut up a nice GN but mine was pretty rough.

whats the advantage of the aluminum tanks?

We use aluminum tanks because we cut cut off the outlets and weld back them rotated 90 deg. pointing outboard. We then use 90 deg. silicone hoses to run the outlet/inlet pipes through exsisting hole in the core support behind the headlights. No cutting of the core support or inner panels is required.

It is necessary to relocate the battery with the above style.

We are also investigating 2 versions of a new intercooler, similar to and based upon, the Powerstroke. One style will have bottom outlets to go under the core support. Other will have center outlets like described above, going through the exsisting openings.

These intercoolers are being developed for us by a very large commercial firm that only does radiators and intercoolers, some for OEM applications.

We will offer these in a kit form for a do-it-yourself application. Hope to have the protype in a few weeks.:)

We have proved the Powerstroke works well in 9 sec. GN's, and will also test the prototype in an 8 sec. GN.

Hey Nick do you have any PICS of your setup, I want to install my PS cooler that I have had for 4 years now but I just don't want to cut the car.

Do you have any ideas on prices for your kits that are to come TIA

If you buy a stock unmodified unit you will have to do some substancial work to get it in there. This is a very nice intercooler for the money. With that said Im very happy with mine. It doesnt affect cooling much even tho I have not replaced the upper baffing at the top of the rad support it still stays cool.

what is involved?

all i can see really having to be done is drill 2 ~3" holes in the core support, weld or bolt on some mounting tabs. run some pipes...

i haven't looked at my car too closely to see, but from what i remember seeing there is a good ammount of room between the radiator and the headlights. i'm thinking it can probably be squeezed in there with enough work. this is probably where i'm wrong.

what is involved? i hope i'm not the only one wondering this.

powerstroke intercooler

So does anyone know where the best place to get the Powerstroke intercooler is? I gotta price of $260.00 new from ford(employee price) but was wondering if anybody has seen new ones cheaper?

i called around to a whole bunch of junk yards and found 2. $250 each.

i think there is someone here with a connection, i want to say they can get them for $180 but i dont' remember who it is. look around you'll find them.
