World-Wide Web released by CERN. Group suggests someone invent a web browser so people can use it.

Dan Bricklin invents the spreadsheet. It will be 5 more years before anyone knows what they're for, and another decade before anyone knows how to use them.

:D

What memories! MOSAIC!!! When I first got Internet access back in '95 (when the web was still good) I used that program! What a shame. They started the wed browser revolution and Netscape and Internet Explorer got all the credit for it. No one even remembers it. :(

BTW, I wish it would have covered BBS's. Anyone remember them?

I've been on the net since the early days. 93. Working for a Major university i had access way back then. it was very different. I remember then I was tryingto send a picture and Ken Mosher was trying to talk me thru a FTP method. Wow was I confused. and still am lol..
I was on a place called the Hot rod list. There were some sharp guys on that. John Dearmond, Ken Mosher, Dave Cooley and a bunch of others.. Wow those days were different..

I had to learn a few UNIX commands to use my first internet
"shell" account. That was back in 93 when I was using "powerful" laptop, 25mhz 386 with a speedy 9.6 modem.

I remember playing DOOM on my bud's 486/33 (it even had a "turbo" button, as if someone would want to use the computer at half speed), then I got my Pentium 75, and it was blindingly fast:D

Those times, while much simpler, were much more fun. I would trade today's technology in a second to go back to the good old days of the Internet.

I remember those days Frank. I came around '94. Ken, Jay Carter and a couple others were it. If your TR is fast, thank those guys. Man, I haven't heard of Dave Cooley in a looong time. Maybe we should start a post "What ever happened to..."

A friend of mine used to run one around here. I loved it. Connected to it with my 286 with math co-processor and 2400 baud modem. :D

I ran one in my house from 1994-1997. It was called Knight's Realm, and was a general BBS. After success, I founded Right-Net, a network to link other BBS's to the messages of Right-Net, which covered very conservative issues without having to worry about being censored. A little while later, I created 80's Net, a net about the decade of the 1980's. Those years were some of the best of my life, and I will never ever forget them and the users that made Knight's Realm a success.

I remember using TIN to getting to the NEWSgroups..

Hey I worked for BBN which orriginally helped DARPA.
We had a webfarm with 300+ servers

I have an old backup of Renegade on my hard drive. Will check my users to see if you were there. The only thing going against it is I am in SI and you are in LI. That can get expensive after a while. :)

I started on a Apple 2 C with a 300 baud modem. It took a 1/2 hour just to say hello on the BBS:eek:

I remember getting a 14,400 baud modem and it was like WOW thats so fast noone supported it... i ran at 9,600 most of the time... even AOL for the longest time!!!!

using differnet protocols to download stuff like Zmodem and Xmodem, etc....

yep yep.. Jay Carter was really instrumental in those days.. Last I heard of dave Cooley he had a Neon and was messing with that makin it faster.. That was 5 years ago or more..
