Hit and Run While on My Harley tonight

I was riding around tonight on my 99 Harley Softail Custom (Just got it a month ago) when I see an idiot in a Silver PT Cruiser that was in front of me almost run into the back of a car at a stoplight....I thought he hit the car....I stopped a good two or more car lengths back from him when I see his backup lights come on and then he started coming my way....closer...closer...I laid on the horn but the #$%&% backed into me and I started going down.....After his PT started raising up cause he was up on my wheel with his bumper he stopped.....put it in drive and pulled in the parking lot beside us which also cuts through to I-40 where he took off through...I followed and was on his rear bumper (No Pun Intended) but I stopped at the end of the lot cause I already had his tag number. Cops said they had a car waiting at the the bastards house. I was able to ride it home. Messed up the paint on the front fender and some chrome. Seems to ride better now...ha ha....Hope they catch the bastard tonight and I bet he is drunk. He will pay through the nose!!!! Im a little sore but lucky it was not worse. Welp.....Hope everyone else has a better weekend than mine has been so far. Russ

I can't wait to hear the update on this one. The police didn't say anything about the car being stolen or anything like that?

I would have the police call you up when he gets home as well, so you can identify the car... and express your thanks for rearranging your front alignment.

You didn't happen to talk to or find the person who he hit in front of him, did you?

I really hate it when people do hit and run **** like that and I'm just so glad that someone was finally quick enough to catch the guilty party in the act.

If they catch and convict the guy I figure I will come out ok on the deal. I was wanting to change the front wheel anyways so i figure i can get one out of the insurance company along with some additional chrome. Also I figure it being a hit and run with me being the victim on a motorcycle and being a little sore and mentally stressed (More than normal) I will get some sort of settlment from that. Probably will have to call a lawyer like I did with my last wreck to deal with the freaking insurance company of the guy at fault.

I dont know for sure if he hit the car in front of him or not so I did not get to talk to them.

I figure the guy was drunk and trying to avoid getting the big ticket. I hope he is wasted when they catch him.

Update

Cops called me today and said they found the PT Cruiser and it was a chick driving. It was an hour after I reported it before they found her. She had been drinking but I dont think she got charged with DUI. I should get a copy or my insurance company should get a copy of the police report next week. I assume she got charged with at least Hit and Run. Her insurance was current so I should come out pretty good on getting paid for on my Harley. She said she did not realize she was backing over me. Cop told me that the alcohol could have played a factor in that. (Ya think?) Went and got one estimate today for around $2400...Gonna go get another estimate next week and they of course will get the highest one I can get. Gonna make a doctor visit as well sometime.

Did they find damage on her car? Paint scrapes on the rear or front bumper??

Evidence Found

Yeah they found the place on/under her rear bumper where she tried to squish me. I would not be so out to ream her if she had just stopped. I was more pissed than scared. Actually it will hopefully work out in my favor. Was gonna stick a new set of wheels on it anyways. Anyone want a pic of my bike before the wreck just E-mail me. Have not took any of it after.

Red...I thought it may have been BWEAVY but he is off the hook now that the chick was caught.

There are too many ****heads on the roads these days. I'd be afraid to ride a motorcycle. Some asshole cut me off twice today in saturday afternoon traffic. If I was on a bike, I might have been in real trouble. Hope you take that bitch to the cleaners (or at least her insurance). Hope she learns a lesson, but probably not. She could have seriously injured or killed you or someone else, then she takes off. Because she was lucky and didin't cause any major damage, she gets away with a slap on the hand.

Although I can relate to your anger and frustration because I USED to be a bike rider something was obvious to me here.

Yes it sucks that your bike got damaged.
Yes I'm sorry your a little sore.

The is a classic example of why we pay so much for insurance.

It bothers me (and others I'm sure) that you imediately proclaim that your going to get high estimates and a settlement.

Sorry to say it but stuff like this bugs me. Flame on!

Doesn't bother me a bit if he is going to put the money right back into the bike. What bothers me is the people that take the large payoffs for their POS and just pocket it and also claim neck pain for a very minor bump.

I just started to ride my new Vrod last week and in 5 days I had 3 people try to run me over! They would cut across 2-3 lanes and nearly side swipe my ass! I was even on the horn right NEXT to one of them, 3 ft from their drivers door, and instead of looking out the window for me they were looking in their mirrors!
In all instances I saw them coming and none of them looked over their shoulder out the window to see if the lane was clear. They only looked in their mirror..

Yep...All "MY" Fault that insurance is so high. It has nothing to do with the person that was drinking and driving who could have easily killed me and then left the scene. Im sure their insurance will be cheap so they can continue to drink and drive and do more Hit & Runs.


Feel free to "Flame On" as you said.....I just consider it responding. Im not mad about what you said. You have that right to voice your opinion....Just as I have the right to respond more when you do.

I for one hope you clean shop. There are way too many times that good honest people get screwed by deals like this.

Yes, it sucks that insurance rates are so high... but just as you said, they should be high because of people like this that damn near kill people then run and hide.

Don't get me wrong, I think your should get your bike repaired with everything absolutely neccesary. If the parts/labour can be done by the shop YOU approve of, for say $2000, but your buddy writes the estimate for $4000, who looses?

Not the idiot behind the wheel. The insurance company. Then I do the same thing and my friend and my brother ect..... what happens? Insurance company says sorry rates going up this year again.

As far as your claim for injuries, same thing. Soon insurance companies will only pay out if your dead. Too many bogus claims.

No matter what happens, this drunk will only have a rate increase, she won't be paying your costs herself. Your revenge will be with the insurance company. Just does'nt seem right.

That being said, I hope your still not sore. Now get those parts ordered so you can enjoy that bike this summer.
