by putting extra holes or enlarging the ones that are there we allow exhausted lube oil to enter the clutch pack taking heat away from the engaged members.this is not necessary in certain places as its benefits ultimately depend on if you are talking about the forward ring gear or the direct clutch hub which is part of the forward drum.in severe applications it is still very questionable as to its effectiveness because of rotational direction and windage.the best way to accomplish this is to remove the check ball in the forward drum and instal a 440 madulator cup plug with an .030 orifice in its place .this allows oil to be shot straight into the direct clutch pack.and for the forward drill an .030 hole through the piston to spray the forwards all the time.this also helps with second gear starts as it reduces hi pressure in the governor upshift circuit at an idle or when start / stop driving in the city.
