yes but....

There is an extra layer of insulation above the turbo on the hotair pad. Keeps the turbo from burning the paint off the hood. You can make a large heat shield like others on the board, or pay 300-500 dollars for a new one.

do u mean a thicker gauge in sheetmetal as the shield ? who has made it work anyone got pics or tips on what to use to make it work?
 
I just bought a 85 hA t-type and i have the same problem it damaged the paint on the hood im planning on making a small heat shield out of some alum diamond plate i have but i would like to see what other members have done to correct this as well. good thread
 
Check with Mark at turbo regal custom parts, buickgn.com he used to make heat shields that filled up the whole recessed area on the stock hot air pad, and I know some people used those and took the 87 pads and cut away some of the insulation in that area to make the shield fit flush against the hood.

I checked last month with Mark and these heat shields are no longer available. I would have purchased one. Brad
