What are hot airs going for these days? What should I expect to pick up a driver quality, bone stock, or near stock HA? Lookin' to have a slightly modified HA as an alternate daily driver.

Depends on condition. I've seen them from 4 to 7 thousand that were well worth it because of the condition that they were in but I have also seen them selling for 2500 that weren't worth the asking price. As said many times here: something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

i picked mine up for 1000 a month or so ago. guy needed cash, car was very solid only needign a patch above the 1/4 glass , and i am going to put in the rear section of floor pan because i have the means to do so and it was a little rusty. but the car runs good

Got mine for $4000, no rust, has problems but I have had The GN bug for years so I got it. Should have looked around more, o well. Found mine on craigslist it was abused in its pre. life. Look around there are still some deals to be had. i know of two here, not sure were there at just word of mouth. theres one in a field some were in town, and one in some weeds by a guys house. once I get some money im going to go looking for them. Cars like these shouldnt be sitting in the weather.

I'm sure the IC owners will disagree with me but I think the Hot Air cars will be well sought after in a few years (as a collector not a driver) simply because of the lower number produced and the fact that there simply arn't alot of them left. Of the number that is still on the road, many have went the way of IC or SBC.

I would have to disagree here. I own a fast hot air and there are only around six people on this board who try to make them go fast. The low production numbers for the Hot Airs is not relevant. People want speed and making a Hot Air go fast is really expensive. Better to get an 86/87 TTYPE-This allows alot more options for speed improvement. My 2 cents. Brad

im hangin on to my 84 as a daily driver. i think it is pretty cool that they only made 2000 and who knows how many are left on the road, plus the seats in the 84 are way more comfy. as for performance im nt doing a thing to that motor, ill eather buy a 87 ic to build or just put a ic motor in mine

This is why I stated "for a collector not a driver". I agree that if you are looking for speed then the IC cars are the way to go. I have a cousin that has a 2 owner 1957 chevy belair hardtop. This car left the factory with a strait 6 and an automatic trans. "In the day" it was probably looked upon as a second rate pos because of not having the 283 that most of the other belair's had however now it is as collectable as the V8 cars or maybe even more so due to its engine oddity. As the Gn gets older it will/is becoming more of a collectable than it is a racer. Not comparing my car to a 57 chevy or a Hemi Cuda for that matter but in the 70's the cudas were ripping up the dragstrips like the gn's are still doing today however you will not see a hemi cuda on the strip today due to its value and collectability. Ok enough rambling on...I think its time for my medication....

Theres only around 6 people on here that try to make theirs go fast? Well let me get ahold of one :)

And I'm not sure they're more expensive to make go fast. Try gettin your hands on a nice t or gn for under 10. Now how much more money are you going to throw into it? 5? so you're sittin at 15 grand now.
If I found a nice ha for 6, and put 3 into it, it would be plenty fast (for me) and id still be lookin at only 9 grand. As far as the price it took to make fast, sure, it can be a bit more expensive, but not for the overall investment.

All i'd really need, is the ta33, injectors, hotwired pump, afpr, p & p the heads & intake, better downpipe/exhaust, alcohol & chip, maf pipe/Z06 maf/translator, wide band w/ power logger, good radiator w/ 160 t-stat, & throw on the 2800 stall I have sittin here, and I'd be content.
Well...pretty much what brad padgett has. that'd be fine with me.

I just want another project that I can drive around, and not get all fussy with, like i do my 87.

Here is the cost of your list.

1. TA33c-$900
2. Injectors-$293.
3. Howire-$70
4. Fuel ump-$149
5. Adj FPR-$114
6. Ported heads and intake-$1600
7. Integrated 2 1/2 downpipe-$850
8. 2 1/2 Hooker exhaust-$439
9. Razor kit-$650
10. TTchip-$125
11. New MAF-$200
12. Translator-$190
13. Wideband-$150
14. Powerlogger-$250
15. Radiaor & Therm-$150
16. Trans with 2800 stall-$1600

Total cost-$7730 excluding tax, shpping, and labor for the install. These cars are expensive which is why if I knew what I know now-I would be in an 86/87.
Take care- Brad

It is pretty easy to make a hot air car a lot faster.
Just put an 86/87 intake on with a modified upper
plenum, add the 86/87 turbo and an electric fan
and go for it. I don't know about the 6 #, but I know
of other cars that have gone this route.
Just my H.O. I plan on having 2 cars @ BG next year,
if anyone wants to see what the setup looks like.

This is a correct list but most intercooled cars that want to go fast would be doing a lot of the same upgrades. Just saying. 6 to go how fast has your cars gone with your set up on them?

I don't race and won't race them.
I like fast cars but I don't race.
I have an 87 GN, 85 T, 84 T and a Lightning.
I am a retired engineer ansd I don't talk without
knowing what I am talking about.
A properly modified upper plenum flows equivalent to
a stock 87, proven on a flow stand.
The ultimate proformance of the 84/85
airflow path is not equivalent to the 86/87.
So, ultimately, the 86/87 IC'ed cars are faster
because of this fact alone.
But, this setup with alky, should be pretty good,
but I haven't proved that - YET.
If you want to race, go for the super charged
V8's, IMHO.

I was just asking since you posted the information. Actually I do race and figure a 10 second hot air set up is getting it pretty good. It really pays to do your homework on these and figure out what will and what won't work. We had actually played with your idea that's why I was wondering what you were seeing number wise.

Yep, the idea is not new. JS Mfg., Turbomotion to name
some. I worked with JS on their kits. The 86/87 intake
with the modified upper plenum is cheaper and easier
and as, or more, effective than those, I think.
It certainly flows with the stock
86/87, so I think bang for the buck is there for the
shade tree mechanic type people, like myself

Thanks Jamie. My car is down for the winter and detuned. Lowered boost down to 16 lbs and richened the A/F down to 10.8. After global warming takes hold I may see my car in March. I will be playing with timing and advancing it later. Take-care. Brad

you and me both, i cant wait to get my car out to california so i can work on it. i need a dp now that i sold the one that was on my car

When I sold my 84 T (DrPepper car) I told myself I would not take less than $4500. The guy who bought it had it appraised and when I got to Albq. to make the exchange, we opened the appraisal at the bank (after price was agree on 2 weeks before) and I was blown away that it appraised at $7625. Main reason the appraiser said is that all the stickers were there and readable. Door stickers and the SPID on the trunklid. The car had 136,xxx miles and ran great. Had the Fbody radiator, 87 fan, Alpine CD player, posi. Paint was a few years old and the body was almost perfect. Very solid car. I miss her....
