Have not even got two tanks of gas thru the new engine and something is very wrong. It was running very good. After one and a half tanks of gas I hit it a bit, not full throttle, but about 2/3's and have the boost turned down to about 12 to 13 PSI. Just hit it for about two seconds in 2nd gear - maybe 4,500 RPM's, and it lit-up the tires, everything went great.
A few more gentle trips with the car, taking it easy, and I hear some tapping. I am only three minutes from home so I turn around and then it acts like it is out of gas, or the MAF is disconnected, or and IC pipe came off. After about 90 seconds the tapping went away but the car still runs like it is running out of gas.
Since there was a tapping just before the problem and my vacuum gauge is doing a slight bouncing and shaking around, it seems like it is valve train related but my engine did not run this bad with a wiped exhaust lobe.
Has fuel pressure, the MAF is 6 to 7 at idle and goes up to about 30 with a bit of throttle in neutral, the O2's look OK, the TPS seems right, it has a new fuel pump and Cam Sensor. Everything was fine until about a minute or two of tapping and then yuk - it did seem to be using lots of fuel and smelled rich at idle.
Going to mess with the EGR Valve, and then probably pull a Valve Cover. The Right Side will be fun for sure with the tall covers.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
