How can I tell if injectors are Brand new never installed?
Also how can I tell if they are 42lbs.
A friend is selling me a set of 42lbs injectors for $200.00

He said they are brand new never used.

What do you think?
David

u can smell them to see if they wreak of gas. when i got my new 60LBS. they smelled like alcohol because i guess they cleaned them after flow matching them.

if ur not sure, i hear 42lb inj. have driveability problems sometimes, get some 60lb. inj and never look back. they have plenty of potential for growth and u dont have to upgrade the ECM either. i have them and they r very street friendly!!!

not to mention full throttle has a great deal for them! $285 for six!

Look at the electrical spades (contacts) to see if there are any "scratches" that denote the injector has been plugged in. If they are flow balanced, then they will have been plugged in and had solvent flowed through them. I'm not sure there is any way to detirmine that an injector is new, but flowed. Have them flowed and if they flow as advirtised, you have a good injector. I have seen injector that are 20+ years old work great. Although, I understand wanting to get what you pay for.

Injectors dont cause performance issues. 42.5 or 009 injectors are actually a very good injector for a mildly moded high 11 sec GN. The only driveability issues were some chips would have a tip in stumble. Other than that I have never had a problem ith 009's and have used them in a quite a few cars. They still get good fuel mileage and perform quite well.

He is very trust worthy but he got them from some one else not a vendor.
So I am not questioning him but his source. I think they came as a package deal with a car that he bought.

Thanks guys

Today I sent out my OE injectors to Chuck
As I just want to the car to be reliable for the sale (so let the new owner buy all of the performance parts he/she wants).

Any and all injectors from an unproven source immediately go to Chuck for cleaning and matching. This is CHEAP insurance. Look for wear patterns at bottom of injector (where it fits into the intake. The finish may be worn slightly if used.

That is what I did, got mine clean and flow tested. IMO - put the $200 towards some 60#.

Been there, done that, earlier this year. Injectors were bought from someone, who I found out bought them from someone, who bought them new. Car wouldn't run, changed chips, wasn't the chip. Finally gave them back to the guy (good guy, bought them back). Caused me a whole lot of issues I really didn't need. My 2 cents.

there was nothing wrong with them they have been flowed and tested read here http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/parts-wanted/234162-need-injectors-giveaway-car.html

think that it was something else not the injectors, but glad that the problem was resolved for you

I'm the guy that flow tested them. They were NEW, never had gas in them, injs...
Mind telling me how you determined that they didn't "work", as you claim???
Chuck, I am absolutely no expert on this. Cory sold them to me after buying them from someone else. Cory said they were a few years old in a pm to me. I installed them, put in a new TT chip and could not get the car to even start. Had Eric send another chip to me, thinking maybe the chip was the problem. I believe we even did 1 more chip. Could not get the car to start. Pulled them, put in the 60# mototrons and another TT chip and I got the car to start. Still plenty of tuning problems, but the car started. I can go back thru mine and Cory's conversations if you like to get more details. Actually, below is part of our pm conversation.
"Cory, I really need to get this car running soon. Would like to make you an offer. I'll replace the injectors and send the 009's back to you. You send me $130. If the new injectors work with no issues, you send me the other $50 and you deal with having them fixed before you resell them again. If the new injectors don't work, and I still have an issue, you keep the $50 for your hassle, you get to resell the 009's, and I still have a problem to figure out. I think this is fair." Cory agreed. Neither of us knew if the problem was with my car or the injectors.

Ryan, what did you determine caused the tune problems, after you added the 60's??
Did you get it corrected??
Interesting phenom... BTW, MOST injs, [maybe 80%] I get for testing, that are labelled as a "problem".. Aren't.
The one's that I find problems with, are usually used injs that are corroded inside, with dried gas residue.[ As in left out in the open air]. Some I save, some I don't.
The 3rd area I see frequently is, larger injs that don't "come close" to being a set. That's why I always suggest purchasers buy "flow matched sets".
Just did a set of 72's today, that were "suspect", due to 160 BLM values. ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong w/ the injs. They flowed VERY close to one another, no leaks, no shorted coils, etc.

yeah no hard feelings here just wanted you to know but you got it fixed so thats good. they went to a good cause now

Interesting. I just recently put some leftover 009s into my GN to replace the leaking, original ones. After sitting in a ziploc bag for almost three years, the car started and runs great. I bought them new in 2004.

I would have gladly sent them to ya Chuck, but at the time I figured they should be okay. I only put like 5K on them in the WH1 before the accident.

"After sitting in a ziploc bag for almost three years"
Likely the key word here is, "ZIPLOC". Every/any attempt to keep them dry, will help in the preservation process.
Alot of folks could help the process if they would just shake out the fuel, add some WD-40, and bag them in a freezer bag..Reusing any caps that may have come with them is a good addition, too.
