How can I test belt tension pulley?

I hear the belt squek but would like a technical procedure for testing.

there is a belt tention tool that import dealers have and it measures the tightness of the belt. if you know sombody that works at one then try to borrow it.

I would buy a new belt. If it stops squeaking, you just needed a new belt...otherwise....
