How can you stand the noise of an open downpipe?

Today at the dyno I removed the cat. Deciding the car now sounds wicked I left it that way for the rest of the day. Wow, my ears hurt. It's very cool to hear the turbo, but the resonation inside the car is unreal. Do you think this is because of the location of the downpipe or does a dump on a test pipe sound the same? I'd really like to get a testpipe soon with maybe an electric exhaust cutout so I'd like to know if their is a difference in sound.

How can you not love it? I would drive mine around uncapped more often if cops wouldn't pull me over for it.

I drive around almost all the time with an open dump.

I would like to get an exhaust cut out, but my exhaust is low enough, and my dump scrapes right where it caps, and I am afraid i might lose the cut out if i get it since my dump is all scarred up.

Open dump is necessary for harrassment around here. I can't stand the ricer exhausts, and the ever rumbling 5.0 rustangs around here.

I just get the stare like, "what the hell is that damn noise" when i drive by.

I like it. Open dump for life!!

I've had mine open exhaust on two occasions... I have to agree... it sounds nice for a short period of time, but that drown that hits going down the highway at a certain speed is unreal.

For harassment, I think 3" pipe from turbo to tailpipe is plenty. I have 2 mufflers - cheap "Turbo" types. A single would be louder, I think. I've gotten used to it, but last night I was reminded just how loud it is. I went out to dinner with the wife and kid and parked waaaaaaaay out so no one dings my doors (and so I could see it from the outdoor patio). When I was leaving, I started it up and EVERY head on the patio turned to see what that noise was. I had to be at least 200 feet away. They all watched - mostly in disgust (it was a bit of a snooty place) - as I rumbled through the lot, past the patio, and out the exit.
