I just bought a 1987 buick grand national with 65000 orginal miles about 2 months ago, and the whole car is compleatly stock. I would like to produce around 500 hp but i dont want to tear into the motor, just bolt ons preferably. does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do? thanks

There are now quite a few people that have taken their stock motor cars into the 10`s these days.

The biggest thing is combination, dedication, and patience.
A search of "stock motors in the 10`s" will likely produce good luck.

HTH, good luck...

I made my parts list in order of what I think you should get from first to last...just my opinion
scanmaster, quality boost gauge, K&N air filter, make a ram air from air dryer duct or buy one, Alchohol injection, Turbo Tweak chip, 60# injectors, Adustable wastegate actuator, 3" downpipe with a y-pipe to run open cut-out, 62mm Throttle body, RJC powerplate to redistribute air better and then a TE44 turbo is a nice and reliable upgrade with the stock convertor. good luck.

6152 turbo
good fuel pump and hot wire
alky control
3 inch downpipe
stretched intercooler
60 pound injectors
eric marshal chip
and turn up the boost and hold on!!!!

would a nice front mount be good or better insted of the stretched intercooler. and i wouldnt have install a stall converter

YES AND NO WITH ALKY A GOOD STRETCH WOULD BE SUFFICIENT AND YES SOORY A 3200 10 INCH CONVERTOR

The 6152 and a 3200 stall is a great combo. Read my signature. I went from a stock turbo to the 6152 and I will tell you that it is a night and day difference.

are you wanting rear wheel hp or just flywheel hp? big difference. btw, hp is not everything. if you are looking for 550 to the tires then you will have a ticking bomb......you can make near 550 at the flywheel and plant 480-500 to the tires and be much safer on the stock motor. but even then, it's a gamble. but if you insist on doing it. you will need some heads, a small cam(but stock will do), bigger turbo, front mount i/c, bigger injectors, free flowing exhaust, etc etc

I've added a TH-style downpipe and about 2 degrees of timing to the mods in my sig and I'm likely a bit under 500 at the wheels. It's unopened except for valve springs and the Power Plate. I would definitely add a girdle if I went with heads. If I spent any time at the track I'd probably girdle it anyway.

A stock GN should run ~14.30 @ 94 mph. Before upgrading anything verify your stock stuff is running right THEN UPGRADE. If it does...Run good gas, turn up the boost, keep your eye on the 02s, and make sure it does not knock. I've seen stock motors (injectors and all) go 12.20. IMO - A motor without good compression will be hard to get 500 hp. Check the compression then change the valve springs and go from there.

Scanmaster, Turbo Tweak Chip, RJC front mount, 340 Fuel pump, hotwire kit, RJC Plate, PTE-61, 50lb Motron inj, Fuel PSI Reg, TH 3'' DP, Hooker cat back exhaust w/ cut out, Alky kit, K&N mounted down in the fender, Tranmission w/3200stall, 373 gears, C-16 race gas. "214/214 cam w/ 100lb springs"

391.9hp @ 394.7 Torque 5,215rpm RWH

Ok the next step is "The Fastest Unopened stock block " using E-85 not alky injection

I wouldn't recommend going into the 10's with a stock bottom end. Just speaking from experience.

Best upgrade I did is the fuel pump and sock with hot wire kit.
The car woke up when that got done.
