How do you find a car you used to own?

Anyone know what is the best way to track down a car that you used to own? There are so many privacy policies in place nowadays that I can imagine it would be difficult. Any help would be great.

If you have the VIN you could take it to the DMV. See if they will give you the info on the new owner. Some states won't, some will.

I visit mine every time I go to the junkyard.

They're hard to recognize when cubed.

I think the VIN is the only way to search but if it's a rare car then somehow searching car boards for the type of car might find it.

IE: L88 corvette of a certain year and color etc.

Start with a CarFax. That'll tell in what state, county and maybe city it was last registered/inspected.
