Been on a construction site since January with a start time of 6:30am .. I typically role in between 6:25 - 6:28, the other 10-12 people on my crew are always standing in the parking lot having a circle jerk come to find out they all get there at like 6:00 am! Why would you want to extend your day by 1/2 hour? These are the same types of people that that insist on backing into the parking spot, drives me nuts idk I'm just a wing it kinda guy don't see the need to be over prepared for every little thing...frankly I don't trust anyone whose more than 10 minutes early to work!

i get there about a half hour early... gives me time to sit in my car, eat my McD's, and decompress before i start my work day..
i work night shift, and i've really aggravated a couple of coworkers that think that i want to hear about anything related to work before i'm getting paid to worry about it... they'll come out and be all like "we've got these hot parts that we've been avoiding all day and they need to be done by tomorrow moring" and i'll be all like "i'm not getting paid and i have a quarter pounder in my mouth and facebook on my phone... i'll figure it out when i'm on the clock"....

Early is on time. On time is late. If I'm 15 min early, I feel like if I'm late. I'm always early. Usually 20-30 minutes. Therefore I have NEVER gotten to work late. If you discipline yourself to be there early you will always have room for error. This is one the the many things the military has taught me and has worked. My wife hates it because I carry that attitude in everything I do. She calls me the Time Nazi.

In the construction field the scenario you describe with guys showing up early, often just standing around and shooting the breeze, is very common. And guys who show up just before starting time is considered "late" and often labeled as not committed to their job, in their book. I know of no other field where this type of behavior is as common place.

I plan on 5 minutes early. I am late, on average, once every 7 years!!! I also live close to work. :)

Depends on the job. I have a crew of 14-15 and some are early and some are right at 7:00 am. So the 7 am's now have to go to the bathroom, get their coffee, clean the trash out of their truck from the previous day because it was "too hot" to do it the previous afternoon so they came inside and shot the breeze with all the other guys for their last half hour instead of cleaning the trash. The early guys show up and clean their trucks in the morning when it is cool and I let them sit and goof for the last half hour when it is hot. So now the "late"guys hold up the early guys and I'm the bad guy for making them go back out and clean their truck in the heat of the afternoon.

Its just like anything else.... i am always early.
When i was growing up early was on time, on time was late. My Dad always taught us to always leave a little early so if something were to happen we would have time to fix it and still be on time. A flat tire is no excuse for being late to work.
I bet if you only get to work 2-5 min early that you push speed limits at times and think police should look the other way because your running late to work...

I like to show up 15-20 minutes before my shift starts. I work a 4 on 4 off rotating 12 hour shift. So one week I work 9am to 9pm then the next four days that I work it is 9pm to 9am. I also have to drive a half hour to work. i always leave the house at 8 and get home at 9:30. If you ever want to feel like a zombie this is the way to go. I have to do a turn over with the off going millwright. We have a few guys that show up over a hour early and they just sit there and read the newspaper. So if you guys ever notice that I am posting at 3am you know I must be at work and nothing is broken in the mill. Well I am going to go to sleep since I just got off of work at 9 this morning and gotta go back in tonight.

When I had to go into the office, I got there anywhere from 30-45 minutes early. Ive never been late, Even tho I was the only one working in the office and no one would know if I was late or not, I always got there early. Now that I work from home again, I get going about 7:45 even tho my shift starts at 8. Gives me time to make some oatmeal and go down in the basement and check on all our systems from overnight to make sure I dont have anything blowing up that needs my attention.

When I had to go into the office, I got there early just to waste some time online checking all the sites I read daily, etc. Wasnt so I could start work early. LOL

I usually arrive 20-25 minutes early every day. It gives me time to get settled in and prepared for whomever it is that somehow will do their level best to ruin my day.:p

It's amazing what you can accomplish in 15 minutes when there is no one interrupting you and the phone isn't ringing off the hook.

45 minutes early. Always. If i am 30 minutes early, i feel late! It all stems from one incident when i overslept while in a school early in my Navy career. Scared the hell out of me so i have been way early ever since. And that happened 17 years ago!

are they cleaning work related stuff out of their trucks that they use for work?
if so, then they should only be doing it while on the clock..

Ooph, im in the minority...again lol

I don't get paid enough to be more than 5 minutes early.

I beat the boss in 90% of the time and have triple the commute time and distance.

Just like that annoying hit pop tune, " I don't care!!!" :p

Well,I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late. I use the side door and after that I just sorta space out for about an hour.

It's not like your lazy or anything.......It sounds like you just don't care....It's a problem of motivation by the sounds of it!:D .....I'll bet you even have 8 different bosses!!

"But I, I said, I, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I, then I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler."

I get up at 4:45 am leave at 5 stop and get a cat head biscuit cause im a pretty big boy most probably don't no what that is lol arrive at 5:35 to 5:40 cause im in my caviler and not the Buick ( cry.cry) but soon. Damn TURBO BUICK made me start late again o well im hooked. 6 to 2 go home have a good day.

When I worked for a place where the time I got there mattered, I would always be at least 20 min early unless there was some horrific traffic.

At my current job.... “A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring :)
