mines not broken , it just leaks oil . trans fluid, the wiring sucks and much more.

Great Guys,Girls! I just found this website! I too own a "hot-air"
Buick of the 1985 vintage. Lets not let the 86;s 87's dominate
the ET board. I believe with a little research and a bit of mechanical knowledge these cars can be VERY quick. Mine has a stock turbo, no intercooler, street gears, and has run deep into the 12's.

welcome to the board.what's your combo and best pass et/mph?

As far as my combo, here it goes! Bought my GN late fall last year. Complete with engine noises and a broken trans. 2000.00
investment. orginal block, .040 over stock replacement cheepy joe
8$ a piece pistons, I reconed the stock rods with arp's. fresh crankshaft grind, cut my intake apart, ported/flowed. Ported/flowed my stock heads, new springs, 3 angle valve job, 5 angle was no improvment! new oil-pump, rollerchain, clevite bearings, KennyBell 1TXB camshaft, goodwires, friend burned prom, homemade single exhaust, 3:73;s. rebuilt trans, no "shift-kit" bull****. Hey even spins tires in overdrive!! HP-BU15 RECON converter, good wires, new plugs, homemade cold air set-up with K/N filter, homemade 3in up-pipe, homemade 2/1/2 cross-over, 3 inch sigle enxhaust with 1 of a kind muffler. With street tires, and I mean 15 street tires, it went a best of 12.41@106mph, with a real slippery 2.23 60ft.

Homebuilt - Your name is Phil right? You worked for Dell this summer right? I talked to you a little about your car and recommend the fuel pump - since you were having "issues" after the rebuild.

I've seen your car at the track all summer and have never seen you make a pass - but maybe this spring I'll get a chance to watch you make a few passes.

What was the 1/8th on your 12 second pass? The numbers don't seem to stack up - was it leaning out bad on the top - did you lift? 106mph seems a little low for that ET with the given 60'.

I don't want to seem like an ass - just curious.

Jeremy! how R U? You were the fella with the cream/yellow t-type correct? Hey thanks for the Fuel-pump advise. That was one of the very much overlooked upgrades that i had verymuch overlooked! Well after the pump and new harness, came the regulartor, gauge to monitor the whole thing. And a few overboost problems with my Buddies prom, I finally got the chance to make a few passes. I made 4 total. Best ET being a 12.39@111, and a few in the sub 13 sec zone, traction and T/V cable malfunction kept me from getting ANY sort of a base line ET to start from. But all/all right toward the end of the summer the I think for the most part I have worked most of the bugs out. Car tore apart now, Just about ready for paint. I pulled the trans out, going to tone it down a bit, very violent shifting, even to much for myself, passengers always gripe! I remeber seeing your car, I think it was yours, parked at the start/end of stage lanes with no one around many times? I am really liking this turbo thing. Early on this summer i was thinking of ridding myself of the thing. But my thoughts have changed for the better.

Yup thats yellow/tan car is mine....it going down to visit Dell next weekend for some work (no upshift)

What kind of boost are you running? Are you sure thats a stock turbo? Most guys would kill to run 105mph with a stock turbo, Hell most 86-87's don't run 111mph with the stock turbo. Once again I don't want to seem like an ass - but in my experience I haven't heard of anyone getting that mph out of a stock turbo - and If it was possible no one would upgrade. Unless the car went on a serious diet or your spraying n20 - I just don't see that kind of mph coming out of your combo.

I'm sure you'll have your chance to prove me wrong this spring.....I'm there almost every wednesday night, along with Twins (Chris), OTHRWMN (Ryan), Bigsix (Travis), and occasionally Turbox2 (Karl & Jamie).

HOMEBUILT

I am in the middle of a porting job on my intake / heads.

What did you do to your intake ?

What did you do to your heads ?

Thx

Homebuilt and Nocooler.....you guys over by Ionia? I think I found Muir on the map but couldn't find Stl Louis MI. :-(

What track do you go to?

St. Louis in about an hour north of Lansing. It takes me about an hour and fifteen to get to Ionia.

I run at Mid-Michigan in Stanton - about 45 minutes away.

Jeremy

i was thinking the same thing, what is the lift on that cam, you must have some mad mid pull going on.

I ran a 2.3 60' and let off a hair at the end because of back fire and only got a 13.06@110.1

lift on cam

Crazygn the lift on the Kenne Bell KB Mark 1TXB camshaft is in. and ex. 460 with a 260 duration on in. and ex. 114 lobe center. Kenne Bell's number one selling turbo cam. Pulls strong from 1000 to 5500 rpms.;)

PHIL,

You need to make some passes in front of a camera, I'll get someone to host them and we can let the world see how fast a Hot-Air can be on stock parts.

I would really suggest bringing you car to the nats. this year. I'm sure that about 2000 people would love to see those #'s from those mods. 12.39 on 235's!!! 110+!!!! You could be the new intake vendor for the 84-5's.

I'd really like to line up with you this spring and see where your car is making all the HP. I figure at about the '660 you would start to walk me like a Chevette diesel.

If you have the slips bring them in and I'll scan them and post here!

Renthorin, St Louis is near Alma-south of Mt. Pleasant. We all meet at Mid MI Mottorplex. It's a great track, it would be good to see more TR's there.

Why are you referring to Turbo when Chad what's his name answered your original post??? My car isn't broken and wasn't broke when it ran a 12.31. LOL;)

First off if your the dude that worked for Dell, seems to me either he was telling stories or you left out a little about your build. I know he mentioned a larger turbo and something about you changing the compressions on your motor? Seems these weren't mentioned? Just clarification of what you said. I'd be real interested to see this run at Mid Michigan.

Phil - thats 3 of us that would like to see your cars run those numbers. Hell we'd probably pay the gate fee too.

Nah, I wouldn't go that far.... Besides I'll most likely already be there running so it's not like I'd miss it if it happened.. LOL ;)
