How fast on type II ignition setup?

Did some searching but couldn't find much. TO me it makes no sense that gm would switch to this setup if it was subpar and use it on nearly every throw away car ever built. Yes I realize I could spend over 150 bucks on a new stock setup and be done with it, but I'd rather go with something that can be replaced at the drop of a hat, not 3 or 4 days later.
