This is also from the latest Hemmings Muscle Machines. In the tech question section a guy with a low mileage stone stock Turbo asked if 2 grand would get him mid 11s running race gas. The reply was he could get into the low 12s real cheap but it would cost a lot more than $2K to hit mid 11s. Then they suggested a 200 shot of NOS. So here's my question. With a stock GN and $2K on race gas, what would you do and how fast would it go?

You could ASK member Pronto because he took his stock motor to 11:70 with upgrades that he did in stages

He has it all calculated down to the penny & steps done.

Scan tool
Turbo...old school PT52
Convertor...Whatever matches turbo
TurboTweak chip
Slicks
Some 60lb injectors
3" Downpipe
Valve springs
Adjustable wastegate
Dutt neck

Not sure what kind of money that is, but if the person could tune that should get them close. If some of those parts were used no doubt that could fall into the budget. Turn the boost up, remove some extra weight(free) and I think thats capable of low 12's high 11's.

A bone stock 86/87 Turbo Regal/GN will "SAFELY & RELIABLY" go into the mid-high 12's on $2K.

Yea, you can go faster but it will become unreliable. That is what I've learned from owning three of these things. One bone stock 20K mile virgin, one slightly modified "bone stock" one and one full on go fast one with many dollars in it.

I believe some have been low 11s spending 2k or quicker depending on the deals he finds.
Guy up here ran high 10's so I heard with unopened motor except for new valve springs. Spend the money wisely and you could see low 11s IMO.

If you could buy used parts or heavily discounted new ones sure.

Own labor for all the install too.

Slicks new are kinda expensive plenty of bald BFG drag radials out there cheap. :p

I'd say 11's could be done reasonably easy with race gas.

2k in a bone stock TR will definately put it in the 11's. That's assuming the car has no issues with the tranmission.

I've gone 11.40's with a PT51, 009's, SLIC, race chip and fuel and slicks. It's very easy to put a TR in the 11's.
