i had my u joints replaced by a local shop. it wasnt very expensive. i think it was about $40 for parts and about an hour or so labor. i replaced them also because of the clank sound when i shift my car from park to drive or reverse. since i have had them replaced i still have almost the same sound clank. im sure its coming from the rear end. anyone know exactly what it could mean?

just replaced the driveshaft with new u-joints and still it`s making the same noise It sounds like there are two monkeys hiding somewhere in my car and hitting something with a hammer:eek: Boy when i find them:mad: what else could it be:confused:

Well, several things. My TTA makes things a little different, no direct G-body background. I have seen the DP smack the floot pan. The minor shock of putting it to gear when the drive line tightens up could do it. YOu may have something doing on in the rear end. I know the 9 bolt in the TTA (not even close to the 10 bolt in a G-body) has some slop issues that make a nice bang when put into gear. It could even be the bushings, too much slop causes it all to kind of settle in, hard, when dropped in gear.

Where does it sound like it is comming from? I would even put someone in the car and listen from outside to make sure you don't lose it in the echo in the cabin.

The noise sounds like it is coming from the front, I had the rearend rebuilt by Gears r us on Dixie hwy two years ago i will check those thing you just mention, thanks

The 2004r tranny clanks when put into gear. The fix.. get a valvebody from an 89 TTA, those got reprogrammed so they wouldnt clank as hard.

87 GN BRF 89 TTA TTF/TAF similar but slightly different.

Well, based on how my TTA makes a racket I could not imagine what a bad GN sounds like!!!

Seriously, I think mine is just drive line slop. 28K may be short on the mile side but 13+ years long on the age side.

tta583, maybe sunday we can meet somewhere so you can hear the noise, so we can match noise on both cars to see if its the same...the noise is making kr hit high numbers at low boost and its hard trying to adjust the alky.......I was suppose to meet with Tims87gn this past weekend but it was raining and i was working with a intercooler problem...need to call him.. anywho let me know maybe we all can get together then.. i have to work saturday

Right now the plan for Sunday is a little shopping that I need to do then wash the car. The current forcast is rain but in the mid 50's. I need to get it done as it was accepted in Carl Casper's (http://www.carlcasper.com/ Louisville people will know about this show) this year. Last year I had to wash it the week of the show in the snow as I got behind on some work I was doing under the hood:

I figure wash it and pull it in to dry and detail. If you want to come out in the afternoon I think we could work something out.
