Over the weekend while I was changing my thermostat, I decided to take a look at my turbo. I have a stock turbo in my 86 Ttype. So I rotated the blades by hand which seemed a little too easy. I also grabbed the end and was able to move it up and down and left to right. I'm sure this thing needs new seals and bearings especially since there is a fair amount of oil passing into my plumbing and TB. Would it be easier to just rebuild this? What else could be wrong with this turbo? I would hate to take this thing apart assming all I need to do is rebuild it and find out that it needs some major parts...which would push me in the direction of purchasing a new one.?

If you have a shop that does rebuilds price them first. It may be just as cheap to do an upgrade from Gbody or one of the other vendors. I think they still have some on sale right now.

If it does not have excessive shaft play, it should be about $ 250.00 to do a full rebuild. That includes new bearings, seals, etc... If it has excessive shaft play, you cannot rebuild it, and need to replace the center cartridge. At this point it may be cheaper to just buy a new turbo.
