First of all lemme describe the car...87 T Stage 2 276" off center...car runs 10.70's now on sticky's with a small 63 turbo, stock location intercooler, 55lbers, and stock heads. Now the plan is : Champion R heads, front mount, 83lbers, FAST unit, and a 76 turbo. Car currently is running a PMAC 2004r with an Art Carr 9". I intend to put this car in the 10.50 range on radials. Tranny shifts fine now, no complaints. It has about 40 passes on it. Streetability is not an issue. I have a BOP 400 sitting in the corner of my garage that i could have built and use. I am considering the 400 only because of longevity, taking into account i will have to swap gears to use it. Pinion gear is howling a little on the car now, so either way i have to put a set of gears in it. How long will the 200 last? It will be maintained, but surely beat on at the track. Any input appreciated. Thx Scott

I'll bet it lasts...

right up until the point at which it breaks. :p

Actually, I don't think anyone could accurately answer that question. Maybe there'll be some educated guesses though.

Next pass could be your last.... or you could get a couple hundred passes. It's too hard to say, if the hard parts hold up ie; fwd. drum shaft, inputshaft ect. you may only have to freshen it up every so often. With the 400 there is less chance of hard part failure but you also have to consider mount and shaft changes? :D

Yea the mount isn't much of an issue. I have all the tools necessary. I already have the driveshaft for an 8.5" with a 400 yoke. What would u guys do? I think i have the tranny sold, better to sell it now b4 i grenade it? Go ahead and upgrade? Or run it till it drops...Thx for the insight Greg :D I just checked out your site...You race at Bama? I'm from Birmingham...

A well built 2004r will last a long time (don't know about a PMAC 2004r though?) It's really a personal preferance thing. Try a search on this board for 400 I'm sure you'll find other opinions that have already been described. Good luck either way. :D

Actually I've never raced there. It's exactly 200 miles from my home and that's a bit far to go.

I know Dennis, the track owner, and I built & maintain his Web site for him. :)
