How loose can a D5 be made to stall without throwing efficiency out the door? How much HP will the aftermarket HD clutch lining hold locking it up under WOT conditions?

I'm looking for a reputable rebuilder for a D5...who do you all recommend and how much should one expect to pay to have this service done?

TIA

well im not a tranny expert by any means but i believe i can give you a close estimate. A 12" D5 may be able to stall at 2800 at the most, and a properly built one can take probably around 450 to 500 flywheel power(right about the peak of a 44 which is probably the largest turbo u can have with a 2800 and still be happy), but some are weaker than others and can break at stock levels of power. Sorry i can't be more specific, good luck

Thanks for the info guys. Hey Bruce, my motor currently makes over 600 torque to the tires, and in the upper 400hp range. Right now I'm using a stock D5 and see ~2700 rpm stall on the T brake. Not breaking your balls here Bruce, but the last 9-11 I bought from you did not serve me as well as the Vigilante it replaced. At this point, if I should decided to upgrade my TE44 to a larger turbo, say something in the "big shaft" area, what might be a good choice in a LU converter for me while keeping the cost in the "fixed...got 2 small kids and a wife that hates my car" range???
