I always wondered how many of the 87 gns are left out there. I guess what 20,000 were made. wonder how many are still on the road.

I would take a guess stab in the dark that maybe 3k are OUT OF SERVICE for USA/CANADA.

In there day they were right up there with the MCSS for the 80's stolen.
I am sure a few have been wrecked or ruined with SBC installed.

I guess the GN registry would be the most accurate source, but I've never had the patience to tally it all up. I've wondered alot about that, though.......my guess would be fewer than we think and it could potentially drive up the value if we ever find out for sure.

My educated best guess may even list a higher rate of those out of service than yours Steve. I'd guess maybe 60-70% still are on the road?? Lots of folks wrecked these when new especially in the wet conditions not respecting the power potential of these cars at that time. Also, we have to factor those that became parts and donor cars now long gone for other projects for all the various reasons including financial ones. May not be any real way to truly capture this so we'll have to speculate....

By 'left out there' I assume you mean still on the road or roadworthy? There are pieces of a lot of them still on the road but I would be surprised if there were 10,000 87 GNs left on the road. Look on this board just over the last couple of years how many have been cut up or wrecked. Some guys have cut up more than one too and that is just what has been posted. Imagine how many suffered that fate since 1987 prior to the internet being around to hear about it!
